I'm working tonight so I can't make this show but please go and tell me how it went. Ray Anderson shouldn't be missed in any context but in a solo recital? Man, oh man. Hope it gets documented somehow.

The brave, energetic Mr. Ed Roller who recently hosted Jazz On The Air is planning on tackling the F word of jazz: FUSION. A much maligned phenomenon, it produced some great music. This Saturday evening (7/26) at 1000 right until 300 am Sunday (7/28) Mr Roller will prove it.
Play it loud!
From Ed Roller:
Join us for an extended edition of "Melting World" this Saturday, from 10 PM to 3 AM on Sunday, focusing on the genre of Fusion music. Originating in the late '60s, Fusion blends jazz with electric bass, keyboards, and non-Western instruments.
We'll feature classic tracks from the '70s by Weather Report, Brand X, Jean-Luc Ponty, Billy Cobham, and Al Di Meola, alongside contemporary sounds from Jonas Hellborg & Shawn Lane, PAKT, and John McLaughlin's Mahavishnu Orchestra. Tune in for an evening of complex rhythms and intricate melodies with Ed Roller this Saturday night at 10 PM.
Don't tell anyone but I'll be celebrating the birthday of Miles Davis from 3-7 pm EDT.

On today's Easter Sunday Jazz On The Air on Wusb-Fm Mr. Edison will be hosting some of the fine ladies of the Port Jefferson Documentary Series as they preview this spring series which is in full swing. The series will continue with the movie Flipside on April 8, a must see for the record collectors who make up some of JOTA's audience.
There will also be songs of spring, references to rabbits, a celebration of the last day of Women's History Month and a little bit of fundraising as WUSB-FM is in the midst of its Radiothon.

March 9 was the birthday of Randolph Denard Ornette Coleman so on Sunday, March 10 we'll have a belated celebration on Jazz On The Air on Wusb-Fm.
(Yes, I know, we celebrated Ornette just two weeks ago as part of Black History Month but there's so many great sounds to get to I can't resist.)

Birthday remembrances to Ornette and Kali...
Between doing a bunch of radio in the last couple of months and the continuing work on rebuilding The Edison Library I plumb forgot that somewhere back in January I've been on the air for over 34 years. On an overnight shift, no less! Imagine that. If there was ever any question about my sanity and sense of self preservation that should seal the deal.
And I'll continue this while my health holds out for the time being. Case in point. This Saturday morning (2/10) at 2:00 a.m. Moods 4 Moderns will celebrate the birthday of Lawrence "Butch" Morris by playing one of his conductions all the way through. And then at 3:00 No Apologies will elbow its way in and do whatever the hell it does until the break of dawn. Expect some joyful noises to usher in The Year Of The Dragon yet again.
Requests? I've had a few, but then again, too few to mention. Leave yours in the comment section below.

The Song Is All The Things You Are Edition
There's a women's basketball game scheduled for 2:00 p.m. (Go Seawolves!) and they usually go on for two hours but it could be much shorter or longer. And China Blue is supposed to begin at 6:00 p.m. but sometimes they show for the first show after winter break and sometimes they don't.
So Mistah Edison will fill whatever time is allotted by commemorating Jerome Kern's birthday (January 27, 1885) He'll do this by playing examples of the twenty thousands of versions of two Kern classics: All The Things You Are & The Song Is You
Should be fun.

On today's Jazz On The Air we'll be dipping our toe into the mighty rivers of music that Max Roach helped create. He had a centenary earlier this week and we'll continue the celebration of his percussive prowess from be bop into the infinite.

So what did YOU get for Christmas? Pardon me for bragging but Rosanne gifted me this! I've had my eye on this since it came out and the thing about Mosaic releases is once they're gone they're gone for good. Expect me to crack open this baby for today's extended Jazz On The Air on Wusb-Fm, airing right now.
This should be fun. I'll be filling in for my partner DJ Lips for the next few weeks as he takes some much needed time off. And since I've been working on rebuilding the Edison Library it gives me some much needed time off from that project in order to sit in a box and play recordings all afternoon for you fine folks. Expect the wild and wooly as well as the fine and mellow.

A quick reminder that Jeff Lederer will be bringing his band Sunwatcher to Industry tonight June 27.
