It has been way too long since I've posted a mix!!

But the wait is over! I've invested in a new recorder and am thrilled to present you with the first mix I've recorded on it. I included the crowd noise because it adds a cool dynamic, especially for a live mix!

Loyal Nine has straight-up party bar vibes. On this night, the Bruins had a home playoff game, and well... it didn't go well. That being said, we still had a decent post-game crowd roll through; we lost many of them later but ended with a strong second wind after 1AM.

This mix is mostly upbeat pop and dance. Have a listen at the link in the bio!

🌸 🪩 Spring kicked off this weekend in pink, glam style! .koji.club_ Cherry Blossom Disco has been one of my favorite events to participate in in the past few years.

This year we danced, partied and drank amazing Sake under the disco ball.

I love being given the creative freedom to do my thing for this party. We upped lighting game even more this year, adding tons of pinspots to highlight multiple bard, florals and food vendors.

Musically we are always trying to keep a disco vibe while keeping the music fresh. During VIP hour we kept it chill and funky. As doors opened for the main event we shifted more upbeat and added in some disco classics and remixes.

As we got deeper in the evening we kept the disco vibes, and brought in disco style remixes of current pop while also looking to bring in more house, along with anything the had, disco horns, piano and strings.

As we moved closer to the end of the night we went in to 90s Dance and ended closed out the night with Alex Newell's Kill The Lights. (Actually we had 2 encore songs... but I guess you had to be there 🤷‍♂️)

I love the opportunity to partner with Event Professional Groups; it is a way to show off creativity and work with industry friends to create unique experiences. When Amanda from reached out and asked if I could help with the Cruel Intentions/Gossip Girl themed November Chapter meeting I jumped at the chance. The 90's alt rock vibe that went with the Cruel Intentions theme ws right up my alley!

I wanted to be very intentional with my music selections. I started with a base of the Cruel Intentions soundtrack and then built from there. I added more music that fit the era and sound. I then went through the soundtrack for Gossip Girl... which as a TV show was always going to be more music. It turns out that the show has featured more than 600 songs... I probably previewed at least 400 of them!

I ended up with a working playlist of about 120 tracks, of which around 45 made the final cut of actually getting played that night. I always try to build double to three times the amount of tracks that I will likely actually play. This gives me the flexibility to make song selections based on what is happening in the room and energy in real time.

Let's talk wedding music. It shouldn't be boring or predictable.

I focus on trying to really get into the music personality of your brain. I want to know what you listen to when you work out, are driving around on that first warm spring day with the windows down, what lifts your spirits or makes you sad.

What was the one song for you and your friends at your Senior Prom. What songs stand out form college? What are the songs that you dance to in the kitchen?

When we first start to talk about music I don't want to hear about 'wedding music'. I'll dive deep into whatever music you give me, and I want to creep on your Spotify profile. This allows me to build a better idea of who you are, musically. This process starts pretty much instantly.

As we get closer to your wedding we'll of course go over the details and timelines.

About a month out we're going to deep dive music again. I want to know why you picked every "must play" I want to get more granular with the rest of your music selections as well.

I could just ask you to give me some must plays, play if possibles, and do not plays. However that doesn't work for me. "We trust you to do your thing" while a compliment, also doesn't work for me. Knowledge is power, and the more i know about how you interact with music, the better I am able to deliver an unforgettable experience for you and your guest through music.

I've been a fan of good lighting for events for a long time, so much so that I've completely built my work around it. Don't get me wrong DJ'ing is my passion but lighting is a close second. I've seen parties and events with a great vibe through light and I've also seen it where the light kills the vibe (I'm looking at you bistro lights).

Its for this reason that I only accept events under one of 2 parameters:
1. You or your planner have hired a professional lighting company.
2. I am allowed to use my creativity to light your wedding/party/event.

When I am looking at lighting any space I'm not looking at it in a silo... You are not just getting one type of light i.e. uplights only. I use whatever light is in my set of tools to get the job done and vibe right, uplights, pixel tubes, pin spots, etc.

----
Also a huge shout out to my dude and awesome photographer for these fantastic shots at J + C's wedding at . Paul definitely knows how to capture my work in a way that shows it well!

Get in deeper conversations about music

Music is so much more than just the songs we love to listen and dance to. By getting in deep and understanding what makes people tick musically – what they listen to during their workout or their all-time favorite songs – we can create truly unique experiences that our clients won’t forget.

If you go around on the internet, whether it be The Knot, Wedding Wire, Zola, Refinery29, Martha Stewart Weddings… I could go on… There are always lists of wedding DJ questions to ask when you’re looking to hire.

Every single one is pretty much the same, they’re all the same questions, and I’ll be honest with you most DJs have canned answers ready for all of those because everyone sees them. However, there are a few questions that you could ask, especially if you really want to focus on excellent DJ entertainment for your wedding...

Wedding DJ Questions lists are everywhere. They're kinda not good...

25% of the way to my goal of posting 1 mix a month.!

Decided to go a little more vibey with this funky feel good house mix. There are a lot of familiar songs in here for almost anyone, but in a way you've never heard them before! Definitely some 70's, 80's and 90's throwbacks as well as more recent tracks.

In March of 2020 when I DJ'd my first Midnight Riders tailgate, I was hopeful that we could make it a 'thing'.

It's been 2 years, but I'm back and better than ever... stop by, say hello, and maybe even grab some stickers!
