The latest episode of Music Talks is now out and my guest is award winning author and playwright Gabriel Bergmoser.

Gabriel is one of my youngest guests at 32 but, as you will hear, he has packed a lot into those years and he describes himself as ‘crime author, playwright, podcaster, actor, dog lover and massive Springsteen fan’.

A visit to the cinema to see ‘The Fellowship of the Ring’ lit his creative spark and it has stayed with him ever since. A quick glance at his Wiki page will show how prodigious and successful he has been over the past 10 years.

Highlights include winning the Sir Peter Ustinov Television Scriptwriting Award in 2015 and four years later signing a two-book deal with Harper Collins. The first of the books was ‘The Hunted’ which was a worldwide success and resulted in a book deal with Faber in the UK and a subsequent film deal.

As you would expect Gabriel tells a great story around each of his song selection which were:

90’s Kiss Me Sixpence None the Richer
00’s Mr. Brightside The Killers
10’s Unbelievers Vampire Weekend
20’s dorothea Taylor Swift

Tomorrow sees the release of the final Music Talks episode of the year, although we will have "Favourite Albums of the Year' with myself and Music Talks stalwart Steven Routledge on 21st & 28th of December.

But before I bid adieu to my current guest Paul Webb I have to finish with one of my favourite song choices of the year which is him accompanying his teenage child Dylan on an original song , written by friends in Bend Oregon called 'Made Out of Clay'

If you have the time then please do watch the whole clip. which lasts 12 minutes, but if not then 'Made Out of Clay' starts at 9'06”. The song is beautiful, Paul plays great but Dylan's voice for me is something special. I really hope to hear more!!

You can hear the full, compelling story behind this song selection and all of Paul's other choices at musictalkspod.com or wherever you enjoy your Podcasts. Thanks for listening.

The Music Talks Compliance Committee stepped in and ruled out Paul Webb's initial choice for the Noughties which was 'Pink Moon' by Nick Drake, and yes Paul did buy a VW having seen the ad!

The compliant song choice is 'Fix You" from Coldplay and this video is from their second appearance as headliners at Glastonbury in 2005.

You can hear all Paul's song choices and our chat at musictalkspod.com or wherever you enjoy your Podcasts.

Paul Webb's song choice for the 90's is Signe, which opens the massively successful 'Clapton Unplugged' album.

This outtake is a great little insight into how these shows are actually produced and it also indicates that 'Signe' was not the first thing they played !

Paul Webb's song choice for the 70's is from a band who were absolutely massive at the end of the 70's and into the 80's. Featuring Classical Guitarist John Williams and four other accomplished musicians this is Sky.

My latest guest, Paul Webb, chose this as his song choice for the 60's.

I'm very familiar with the song but the Andy Williams version. I thought I had watched 'Breakfast at Tiffany's' but maybe not as I don't remember hearing this beautiful version by Audrey Hepburn.

This song also prompted one of my favourite Music Quiz questions - 'How wide is Moon River?'. If you don't know the answer listen to the first line of the song :-)

The latest episode of Music Talks is now out and my guest is Paul Webb who comes to the show via an introduction from a previous guest Nick Sheppard (Ep.53) – Many thanks Nick.

Paul is a self-confessed ‘Music Talks Junkie’ and I love the fact that he listens to the episodes on his journey to and from Fly Fishing. Originally from the UK he’s lived in the U.S for over 30 years and now has the joy of living in Bend, Oregon which I am very jealous of having had a couple of delightful holidays there and at one point we seriously considered retiring there.

Music is a clear passion for Paul, both listening but also playing guitar. He describes himself disparagingly as ‘a hack’ but I hardly think that’s fair particularly given he’s a left hander who plays right-handed. His musical passion is complemented by several others including:

· Family – his wife Talley and their two children Ellis & Dylan.

· Climbing – Paul shares several fun, inspirational stories about climbing as well as one about climbing the Royal Arches in Yosemite and almost not making it down.

· Cycling – with three friends he did The Race Across America, which is 3200 miles in 7 days. This was the inspiration for one of his song choices and the title of the episode.

He also shares openly and movingly about the challenges his son Ellis faced with addiction and how he came very close to death. I’m delighted to say that Ellis is now well into his recovery and in Paul’s own words is thriving.

Paul finishes his song selections with a performance of an original song by himself and his younger child Dylan. There’s a great story behind it and the performance is just exquisite.

Paul’s song selections are:

60’s - Moon River Audrey Hepburn
70’s - Carillon Sky
80’s - Love Is A Stranger Eurythmics
90’s - Signe Eric Clapton
00’s - Fix You Coldplay
10’s - Catch & Release (Deepend Remix) Matt Summers
20’s - Made It Out of Clay Dylan Webb

There is a clear and obvious link between Giorgos's 90's choice (Jeff Buckley) and his choice for the 00's.

Jeff was taken from us far too early, but thanks to a significant financial loss the world was treated to a late career renaissance from the brilliant and unique Leonard Cohen.

This song is from '10 New Songs' which I think is his most underrated album. If you are not familiar with it then do check it out.

The 90's song choice from Giorgos Gavriil is from another massive talent who sadly died to young .

Jeff Buckley drowned in the Mississippi River in May 1997 at the age of 30 leaving behind one full album but what an album it is.

This is a great live version of Giorgos's song choice from that album - Grace.

Giorgos Gavriil's 80's song choice is from the brilliant, eccentric talent that is Tom Waits.

Tom was a frequent guest on the Letterman show over the years. This clip from 1986 isn't great quality but the audio is fine and is a joy to watch/listen to.

The latest episode of Music Talks is now out and my guest is Giorgis (George) Gavriil.

Born in 1975 in the port city of Piraeus in Greater Athens, George continues to live in Greece but now lives in the mountains with his wife and his two young children.

He was a late bloomer in terms of music but when things clicked in his late teens there was no looking back. He describes himself as ‘compulsive’ and ‘obsessive’ and this has driven a lifelong passion that’s produced a deep love and an encyclopaedic knowledge of popular music. In recent years those same characteristics have driven his learning to play guitar which he impressively practices an hour a day!

There is a strong theme of passion and emotion that runs through all of George’s song selections and it’s a list I really love. His song selections were:

70’s Mind Power James Brown
80’s Tango Till They’re Sore Tom Waits
90’s Love You Should’ve Come Over Jeff Buckley
00’s A Thousand Kisses Deep Leonard Cohen
10’s Conversation 16 The National
20’s Love Is The Main Thing Fontaines D.C.

Enjoy :-)

My latest guest on Music Talks Podcast is award winning Executive Producer & Author, Craig Colby. This was his song choice for the 60's.

Given his connection to Michigan it was always going to be Motown but as he rightly points out this is one of the first Motown hits that had social commentary in the lyrics.

The Temptations, Marvin Gaye and Stevie Wonder would all go there later but this song really was ground breaking and it sounds as powerful as ever today.

On the other side of the coin you have to love this Ed Sullivan 60's staging :-)

My latest guest, Marian Jago, is Canadian and so no surprise that her 80's song choice is from Canadian Blues Rock Singer Songwriter Colin James.

The track she chose is from his debut album released in 1988 which at the time was the fastest selling album in Canadian history.

He's clearly listened to Stevie Ray Vaughan but there's no doubting the man can play and in recent years he has enjoyed a real resurgence in popularity.

Bryan Mackay’s final song choice is a beautiful and poignant tribute to a lifelong friend Akie Fenty who sadly passed away in April 2020.

My latest guest Bryan Mackay is fastidious about being on time but music does have the ability to stop you in your tracks. That's what happened to Bryan when he heard Lana Del Ray's 'Video Games' for the first time and it made him late for work.

That's what inspired the title of the episode . Glasto 2023 was just after we recorded and given what happened I was tempted to add ( and I wasn't doing my hair) to the title.

She is clearly an interesting and at times challenging character but you cant deny the massive talent. If you haven't listened to 'There's A Tunnel Under Hollywood Boulevard' I'd respectfully suggest you should.

Bryan Mackay's song choice for the 00's is from a band I absolutely love - The National

One of the comments on this video is 'the most beautiful song i have ever heard'.

I don't know about that but its certainly bloody good and you cant do anything other than admire a line that says :

' You know I dreamed about you, for 29 years before I saw you'
