The 1987 Philippine Constitution explicitly states that freedom of speech, of expression, and of the press are our fundamental human rights. Despite this, attacks against journalists, media personnel, and media networks remain rampant. With ceaseless cases of threats, red-tagging, trumped-up charges, and killings of journalists under the current administration, coupled with the shutdown of the country’s largest media network which denied many Filipinos access to reliable news and information, and the continuous intimidation of the state against progressive independent media groups and campus journalists, it is evident that the country’s free press is in peril. Now more than ever, we must unite in the fight to defend the free press in the Philippines.

The BUCSSP Social Work Department is happy to share that we are once again granted the Certificate of Program Compliance (COPC) by the Commission on Higher Education - Regional Office V!

The COPC is being issued to academic programs compliant to the prescribed minimum requirements of CHED. In the case of BSSW program, said minimum requirements are stipulated in CMO No. 39 s. 2017 or the Policies, Standards and Guidelines for the Bachelor of Science in Social Work Program.

This certification is one of the testaments to our commitment of ensuring that the department will continue providing quality education and professional training to produce excellent and dedicated Registered Social Workers who can help usher social development and transformation to the region and the nation.

She is also a Law Professor at the University of North Eastern Philippines teaching Criminal Procedure, Special Proceedings, Trial Technique and Criminal Law Review. She was a former Branch Clerk of Court at the Regional Trial Court, Branch 36, Iriga City, Administrative Manager and Regulatory Compliance Officer of People’s Energy Services Inc., and was an associate lawyer at San Pedro Law Firm.

Sexual harassment has become so rampant that every woman of any age has a story to tell—a story that leaves a horrifying mark that no one can easily erase.

Three in five women have experienced s*xual harassment at least once in their lifetime, according to a survey conducted in 2016 by the Social Weather Stations (SWS), as part of UN Women’s Safe Cities Metro Manila Programme.

In the contemporary world, more women are becoming victims of s*xual harassment also considering the rise of social media. Unwelcomed comments and remarks by predators can be seen in most of women’s posts uploaded in their social media accounts. What’s more terrifying is that the number of minors that are becoming victims of this vicious act is increasing as well.

Sa dalawang magkahiwalay na rehimen, kapwa dinungisan ng administrasyong Marcos at pamahalaang Duterte ang demokrasya ng ating bansa. Alam na natin ang malagim na yugtong dala ng madugong pamamahala ng dalawang pamilya at higit na nakagigimbal ang pamumunong maaaring dalhin ng pagkakaisa ng isang anak ng dating diktador at ang anak ng naghahangad na maging diktador. Sa pag-anunsyo ng tambalang Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. at Sara “Inday Sara” Duterte sa pagkapangulo at pagkapangalawang pangulo, malinaw na ang sinapit ng bansa sa kamay ng kanilang mga ama ay maaaring maranasang muli ng sambayanang Pilipino.

Sa mga administrasyong Marcos at Duterte, lumobo ang utang ng bansa, natatamasa natin ang pagtaas ng presyo ng mga produkto sa merkado at produktong petrolyo, at tumaas ang bilang ng kaso ng paglabag sa karapatang pantao. Subalit labas sa kasalanan ng kanilang mga ama, hindi hiwalay ang kanilang mga imahe dahil hindi ito lingid sa kaalaman ng kanilang mga anak. Malinaw na nanginabang rin sila sa kapangyarihang mayroon ang kanilang pamilya dahil na rin sa pagiging sangkot ng mga ito sa alegasyon at isyu ng korapsyon na lubos na naapektuhan ang ating pamumuhay at katayuan. Sa patuloy na pamamayagpag ng kani-kanilang pamilya sa larangan ng politika, maraming buhay at ari-arian ang kanilang ginugugol at ginapi na nagpanatili sa kanila sa kapangyarihan.

Sa kabilang dako, kapwa mayroong bahid ng anomalya sila Marcos Jr. at Inday Sara. Matatandaang nahatulan si Marcos Jr. ng Tax Evasion noong 1995 [1], samantalang misteryosong lumobo ang kayamanan ni Inday Sara [2]. Ilan lamang ito sa mga patunay na sa usapin ng pondo ng bayan, hindi natin sila dapat pagkatiwalaan.

Sa darating na halalan sa 2022, ang pagtakbo ni Marcos Jr. bilang pangulo at ni Sara Duterte bilang pangalawang pangulo ay hindi ginagarantiya ang paglaya ng ating bayan mula sa mga bansang mapanlupig, sa patuloy na pagkakabaon ng bansa sa utang at paglala ng korapsyon, sa pagtaas ng presyo ng bilihin, at pagtindi ng inhustisya sa bansa sa pamamagitan ng pagkulong sa mga pulitikal na bilanggo't mga aktibista, pati na rin sa mga extrajudicial killings. Ang kanilang kandidatura ay patunay na hindi pa nakukuntento ang kanilang pamilya sa kapangyarihang sinamantala nila upang abusuhin ang mamamayang Pilipino.

Kaya naman ang mga nagkakaisang konseho, organisasyon, at pahayagan ng Bicol University ay mariing naninindigang dapat nating tutulan at biguin ang tambalang Marcos-Duterte sa . Ang tambalang ito ay maaaring maghatid sa atin sa ilang taon ng kagutuman, kahirapan, at kawalan ng pag-asa dahil saksi ang kasaysayan na tanging pansariling interes lamang ang pagsisilbihan nila. Ang kanilang muling paghawak sa kapangyarihan ay indikasyon ng pagpapatuloy sa sinimulang pagyurak sa ating mamamayan, pagkamal sa kaban ng bayan, at pag-abuso sa kapangyarihan na kanilang nadatnan.

Ang demokrasya, kalayaan, at mabuting pamamahala na dapat natatamasa natin ay muling maipagkakait sa ating bayan kung ating papatnugutan ang tambalang Marcos-Duterte sa parating na . Bilang mga Iskolar ng Bayan, dapat nating tugunan ang hamon ng kasalukuyang panahon na ipamulat sa mga sektor ng lipunan, upang biguin ang mapanganib na tambalang ito sa 2022. Malinaw na ang kalaban natin ay hindi ang isa’t isa kundi sina Marcos at Duterte kaya ang pipigil sa pagkakaluklok sa mga anak ng mandarambong at mamamatay tao ay ang kolektibong pagkilos sa iba't-ibang paraan ng mga patriyotiko’t magigiting na iskolar ng bayan.

Labis na ang sinapit ng ating bansa sa kamay ng kanilang mga ama at hinding hindi na tayo papayag na muli itong maranasan sa kamay ng kanilang mga anak. Ang kagustuhan ng bawat Pilipinong lumaya mula sa mapang-abuso at pahirap na sistema ang magpapalakas ng alab sa puso ng bawat isa. Magkaisa, lumaban, at biguin ang Marcos-Duterte sa 2022!

With the conservative culture of the Philippines, most of us grew with the notion that openly talking about s*x is a big taboo. Hence, teenagers, in their curious ages, are robbed of the chance to get helpful information about s*x and s*xuality as a whole that would have been essential for them to better protect and take care of themselves.

Today marks the 12th year of the Maguindanao Massacre that killed the lives of 58 victims of which 32 are members of the media. Their pens, papers and cameras were also taken away from them as they lost their lives on that terrifying day.

May we never forget the story of horror that took place in Maguindanao on November 23, 2009. Let us also raise our voices as we fight the oppression, injustice and impunity that journalists have been facing even up to these days.

Unite with us as we defend press freedom against threats and attacks against journalists. This grim milestone will always be engraved in the hearts of the Filipino people, the media, and journalists.

We've suffered enough. Both the press and the public have had enough.

Stop the killings, stop the oppression. Press freedom is the public's freedom as well.

As we commemorate the 12th year of the Maguindanao Massacre, clean-up those earholes and prepare yourself for later at exactly 2:30 pm, we'll embark on the decade-long call for justice with the National Union of Journalists of the Philippines' (NUJP) treasurer and Manila Bureau reporter, Ms. Jhoanna Ballaran as she illuminates a gleam of light through our ill-lit chasm of apprehension regarding the "2019 Verdict: The Fight for Justice" with the use of her versed words.

Justice may had been served after a decade-long battle, but do take note that this grim milestone will never be forgotten. It had been engraved in the hearts of the Filipino people, the media, and journalists.

Heed our call! Protect the press! Journalists shouldn't be clamped down; they are undeserving of bloodbaths.

As we commemorate the victims of the 11.23 Maguindanao Massacre, most especially the 32 journalists that lost their lives in service for the Filipinos, the Bicol Organization of Neo-Journalists has gathered messages from today's renowned media men that are serving the public and the nation.

Let us all meet our guest media men for the 11.23 Maguindanao Massacre commemoration.

Steve Angeles is a Philippine-born, San Francisco-raised, and now Los Angeles-based multimedia journalist, producer, documentarian at ABS-CBN Global.

JP Soriano is a journalist at GMA, writer, and also a producer.

Anjo Bagaoisan has dabbled in presswork since high school. He now helps produce live and packaged TV reports from the field for ABS-CBN News. He also contributes content for its news website. He is also the deputy secretary-general of the National Union of Journalists of the Philippines (NUJP).

Vina Araneta is former Journalist of ABS-CBN Davao, and she's currently working as News Producer in PTV-Mindanao.

Jose Carretero is a journalist who works at Aksyon Ko Online TV, who is also a former news reporter from ABS-CBN Bicol.

12 years elapsed since the unsparing tragedy of the Maguindanao Massacre befell yet the events of terror and violence remain fresh as the single worst attack on journalists in history continuously reminds us of the rife hostility committed against the press and the right to information at large.

With the stiff and elusive justice obtained after ten years for all the 58 victims of which 32 are journalists, this scores the raw deal of the system and perennial issues targeting journalists who are met with the claws of their demise for acting in defiance and speaking for the truth.

As this year marks the 12-year commemoration of the unwanted incident, this should also be a redolent occasion to remember the victims of the Maguindanao Massacre and protest against the vile oppressors who trample on our rights toward freedom of expression.

The Bicol Organization of Neo-Journalists joins the outcry in denouncing the outspread impunity perpetrated against media practitioners and calls for a resonating perspective to uphold the value of justice and the truth by making the responsible accountable for these attacks towards the press.

As we recollect the events of yesterday's bloodshed, we ought to also pursue an environment for journalists to walk without violence and talk free from pressure and intimidation.

IPAGLALABAN ANG PULSO NG KABATAAN! 🔥

Ayon sa tala ng Commission on Election, mahigit kalahati ng botante sa darating na halalan ay mula sa sektor ng kabataan. Ito ay patunay lamang na ang ating hanay ay isa sa mga magdidikta sa resulta ng nalalapit na eleksyon. Kaya naman hatid ng BU Political Science Club ang “Arangkada Bente Dos: A Roundtable Discussion on Modern Philippine Electorate” ngayong paparating na ika-19 ng Nobyembre.

Para samahan tayo sa pag-aangat ng mga argumento at pagpapalawak ng ating mga kamalayan, makakasama natin sina Kris Anne Turallo, Secretary ng BU Political Science Club, at Ezekiel Zymond Nueva, Deputy PIO ng kaparehong organisasyon bilang ating mga moderator sa Arangkada Bente Dos.
