"As we stash away more and more virtual stuff, every old screenshot, duplicate photo and text message become more and more laden with emotional meaning, leading us to pile them up indefinitely. With the storage capacity of our smartphones constantly increasing, and ever-expanding cheap space in the cloud, our tech is happy to assist us in this quest. "

"There’s another, darker side to video games, one where malevolent pests are given space to prowl forums and community boards, inflicting harm on workers and players without any real consequences."

In No Grass Left to Touch, Marcela Huerta looks at the toxicity pervading video games, and argues that simply ignoring the trolls under the bridge isn't a viable option. Online for everyone now: https://maisonneuve.org/article/2023/06/29/no-grass-left-touch/

"As technology evolves to shield the rich from the masses, we may need to consider that the worlds Neotokyo imitates aren't so alien." Lily Alexandre inspects the contradictions of Montreal's cyberpunk-themed ramen restaurant in our summer issue. Available online for everyone now.

Montreal’s cyberpunk-themed ramen restaurant speaks to a cultural fascination with a high-tech future; maybe its flavour is a little off.

"What I found was a decades-long accumulation of factors leading to the epidemic of mom guilt we have today, the effects of which are harming mothers and robbing them of the joys of parenting."

In our spring issue, Erin James-Abra reports on the centuries-spanning industry capitalizing off of mom guilt.

Framing Agnes, the new documentary from An Ordinary Man director Chase Joynt and historian Morgan Page, is a creative leap into the q***r archive; but one that still leaves historical trans icon Agnes shrouded in mystery. Ziya Jones reviews the film in our spring issue, available online now.

"Digital or print; resurgence or death. For almost two decades, the market has swung media workers between these two polarities."

In Close Reading, Anupa Mistry asks whether our obsession with the viability of traditional media might be holding us back from seeing the future of publishing.

Articles from our Spring 2023 issue are now available to read online! Subscribers have full access to the entire magazine. Happy reading!

Maybe old media is dead. Maybe it was time to turn the page anyway.

"Trump, Ford and Johnson have shown us the dark side of absurdity; the distinctly unfunny reality of what can happen when a 'joke' candidate is elected sincerely."

The first article from our Spring 2023 issue is available to read online! In Horning In, Blair Elliott, the daughter of a longtime Rhino Party candidate, wonders if satirical parties still have a place in today's political arena.

Find the Spring 2023 issue of Maisonneuve on newsstands and at maisonneuve.org now!

Satirical politics is a family affair for this second-gen Rhino, but does politics still have room for humour?
