"Self-made métis" - Ottawa event, Dec. 4
Maisonneuve was thrilled to host several speakers at Carleton University on Dec. 4, all of them exploring the emergence of self-described "métis" groups far from the Red River - in Ontario, Quebec, the Maritimes and New England. The event was inspired by Darryl Leroux's recent piece in Maisonneuve, "Self-made métis." It was followed by a Q-and-A that we are not posting in order to protect the privacy of audience members.
The speakers, from left to right:
Veldon Coburn, Carleton University
Chief Lance Haymond, Kebaowek First Nation
Christiane Wilke (moderator), Carleton University
Darryl Leroux, Saint Mary’s University
Selena Ross, Maisonneuve
