Who is Wild Carnation? A band you should get to know.

Wild Carnation was formed in 1992 by vocalist/bassist Brenda Sauter (The Feelies, Speed the Plough, The Trypes) following the breakup and subsequent 16-year hiatus of The Feelies. Joined by Richard Barnes (electric and acoustic guitars), Christopher O’Donovan (drums, percussion, backing vocals) the trio put out their debut album “Tricycle” in 1994. It wasn’t until 12 years later and the addition of Anne Hopkins (Farfisa Mini-Compact Organ) that the band released their follow-up album “Superbus” in 2006.

We've been a little quiet the past few weeks. With nothing new to talk about sometimes we choose to remain silent. We are still very much recovering our flow from where we were at pre-pandemic. We got a couple handfuls of these back from New Zealand recently. This was a rare unannounced 2nd cassette pressing we did back in 2021 that sold out via distros & the merch table so we didn't even bother announcing. Now that we got some back via trade, here's the first ever mention of it. Urban Waste S/T on gray shell tape. Antidote "Thou Shalt Not Kill" on blue shell tape. Classic 1982 & 83 NYHC staples. This was a very different release for us. In 1956 my grandparents got this album from a friend. They loved it and kept it through all these years. Come 2018 we found a burned copy of it in a cabinet that I made decades ago and we wondered what ever happened to this guy. Turns out he was still alive at the time. I got in touch. We quickly became friends and before you know it, Sol Yaged's debut and only studio album was reissued on Pine Hill Records. This was his only studio album and it hadn't seen any form of pressing in nearly 6 decades. We were happy to remaster this and make the vinyl sound excellent, as well as bring it to CD for the first time. It's also streaming everywhere so you can hear this unique 1956 NYC big band gem!

There is a small, cozy local record store in Portsmouth, NH called Modern Records. They stock all of Pine Hill's current releases. If you're around the area this is a really cool way to support something super small and local. We had no idea they existed until this year!

One of the most memorable eras of the Dover hardcore scene. Great people out at shows and this record came out smack in the middle of it. Originally on CD only in 2009, The Nasty "Graves" LP came to vinyl in 2019 with its first and only pressing. 100 pieces exist. White vinyl. This is one of those albums that should have come out on wax immediately when it was new. But, better late than never.

This was a fun one and our first experiment with this format. and the Graverobbers debut album was of course our first pick. A dark album like this shines brightly on a bizarre format like this. Sounds extra authentic. 50 of these are chilling in the wild. Hope you got one.

the Moon-Rays were this horror surf, lounge, jazz, spy-oriented mixture of greatness. I found them via myspace decades ago, bought their CD and loved them ever since. Fast forward to 2018 and out it came on Pine Hill Records super exclusive series. 100 of these hand-numbered LP's are floating around somewhere. This album is seriously awesome front to back. You don't hear bands like this.

We realized we've hit the 50 mark. In the amount of time we've been doing this that's not a ton of releases. But to be fair, we never take the cheap way out. You see a lot of labels doing CD-only or tape-only to keep costs down & manufacturing quick. That's not us. There's no money to be made here and we're only doing this because we want to. So why not do it right? We'll continue to do as much as we can as frequently as we can. If only time and money grew on pine trees........

Label top favorite pick. Only 90 copies in existence. This debut album hardly ever pops up in the wild. Back in 2017 when we put this out it went very quickly and people seem to be hanging onto them. Feast your eyes on #1 of 90.

Double album release for The Crimson Ghosts. These both rip front to back. Highly recommended if this is your thing.

The Crimson Ghosts – Some Kinda Hits (2005) & Earth E.P. (2008). Phenomenal instrumental horror surf Misfits tribute. Super well-done. If you’re more than a casual Misfits fan, this is a must. Part of our Super Exclusive Series, meaning only 100 hand-numbered copies of each album were pressed.
