In 2008, *Pattie Howard began a campaign to gain recognition for background vocalist within the music industry by changing the title "background singer" to "Supporting Vocalist" and by creating an award category for Best Supporting Vocalist. Since that time, there has been wide spread use of the term, and greater attention to the skill, training, and defining attributes of a Professional Supportin

g Vocalist. The contribution to popular music that these industry professionals make goes beyond the studio and stage, and is evident in platinum selling hooks, chorus', lyrics, and vocal arrangements of the top selling songs of our time. In 2014, the first award show dedicated to honoring the work and skill of "Supporting Vocalist" will take place in Los Angeles California, honoring these cornerstones of the music industry. Music Industry professionals only.

**Pattie Howard is a recording artist, songwriter and producer who has also sung with many artists and on many popular hits. As a Supporting Vocalist, she is best known for the many years she traveled and sang with Whitney Houston.
