I'M THE ONLY ONE WHO HAS DEFEATED AYO FAYOSE IN AN ELECTION, THIS IS HOW I DID IT" ~ Senator Ojudu Babafemi

I have been the only one who defeated him in an election; he stood against me during the Senate election, he had 28,000 votes and I had 68,000 votes.

“This is also a story of how I defeated him. He had the money to spend but I didn’t have the money to spend.

“Then, a radio station organised a debate between me and him which was actually an unfair competition. When we got there, I went in my Agbada while he came in a Tee shirt and jeans.

“As soon as he entered, I saw an inscription on that Tee-shirt “Politics is Serious Business” and I saw that politics was wrongly spelt.

“I was happy that I had this guy today. I called my photographer, ‘please snap his chest, which he did,’ we went on and he accused me of all sorts of things.

“He called me a road side journalist and I was just waiting. After we had thrown all kinds of barbs at each other, the moderator said ‘we have come to the end of the debate but I will give you two minutes each. Who is going to start?’

“And I said my governor must start. He thought I was actually being civil but I needed to talk last so that he would have no reply.

“When he finished, I said ‘today is my saddest day because I don’t know what to tell my 13-year-old daughter when I get back home – that the man who was my governor, who wants to go and represent Ekiti in the Senate does not know how to spell politics.

“People at home, I’m calling your attention to the chest of this former governor of yours who wants to go to the Senate and can’t spell politics – are we going to continue having illiterates in power? He just put his hands on his chest and ran out of the studio, that was a killer punch.”

2023: I Made A Mistake With Fubara, Forgive Me, Wike Begs Rivers People •Says, I didn’t tell anybody to worship me

The Minister of the Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has said backing Governor Siminalayi Fubara was a mistake he would correct at the appropriate time.
The FCT Minister insisted he made mistakes in his judgement of Fubara and asked the people of the LGA and political family to forgive him.

He said at the appropriate time they would correct the mistake insisting that he would continue to make his detractors angry so they would keep making mistakes.

Wike said: ”I want to say this clearly, in life we have made a mistake. I have made a mistake. I own it up and I say God forgive me. I have said all of you forgive me. But we will correct it at the appropriate time. I am a human, I am bound to make a mistake. So forgive me for making a wrong judgement. So nobody should kill”.

He also responded to some developments and actions from the camp of Rivers Governor Siminalayi Fubara, on the ongoing political crisis in the State.

Wike spoke on Saturday at the grand Civic reception held at Ogu-Bolo in honour of Chief George Thompson Sekibo to celebrate his 20 years of service at the National and 36 years of his life in public service.

The former Rivers Governor told Fubara’s camp that no injunctions obtained at 2am or 4am would stop the law and due process from taking its course in the state.

“If they like they can go to anybody by 2am or 4am to get injunction. The law will take its course. We must follow due process,” Wike said.

Reacting to Fubara’s remarks that he would not worship anybody, Wike said he had never asked anybody to worship him.

He said: “It is not easy to be a public officer and the people decide to honour you. Let me thank the Ogu council of chiefs and the entire community who insisted that their son should be honoured.

“You have refused politics to divide you. It shows that you have the interest of your community in mind.

BABA IJESHA MARKS ONE YEAR IN PRISON, 15 MORE TO GO

A popular and embattled actor, Olanrewaju James, popularly known as Baba Ijesha, who was sentenced to 16 years imprisonment for child defilement, has spent one year of his prison term at the Maximum Security Custodial Centre, Kirikiri, Lagos State.

He was convicted of the crime on July 14, 2022, and was sentenced to 16 years imprisonment on four of the six-count charge—indecent treatment of a child, sexual assault, attempted sexual assault by pe*******on, and sexual assault by pe*******on— preferred against him.

Recall that James was arrested on April 22, 2021, and first appeared before Magistrate P.E. Nwaka of the Yaba Magistrate Court in Yaba, Lagos, on July 16, 2021.

The actor was later arraigned at the Special Offences and Domestic Violence Court in Ikeja, before Justice Oluwatoyin Taiwo, who eventually delivered the judgment. While reading her judgment, she said, “I hereby find the defendant guilty of count two to five, and he is discharged of counts one and six. The defendant is here by sentenced to five years imprisonment for count two, three years for count three, five years for count four, and three years for count five.”

House Of Reps To Investigate Crude Oil Theft
The case generated a lot of attention and controversies. It also ‘divided’ the entertainment industry as some celebs supported comedian, Princess Adekoya, whose ward was the one defiled; while some empathised with Baba Ijesha.

Some of the people who were sympathetic to Baba Ijesha’s plight were Yomi Fabiyi, Bukky Black, and Lege Miami. On his part, Fabiyi maintained that the actor was ‘ambushed’ into the crime.

On the other hand, actresses, such as Iyabo Ojo Nkechi Blessing, vehemently supported Princess.

In an interview with our correspondent during the week, Fabiyi said, “First, it is difficult for me to deny knowing him. My non-governmental organisation decided to hear his side, do our own little investigation, and what we found out required us to give him a voice, as it looked like he was ‘ambushed into that misfortune’.

“There were too many questions begging for answers, as could be seen at the end of the trial, hence the appeal.”

Maintaining that he had been in constant communication with the beleaguered actor since he was committed to prison, Fabiyi said, “My first visit started from the second day he was sentenced to prison. I also ensure that I regular communicate with him in prison.”

He added, “I am not in shoes, but I am trying my best to keep his spirits high and get him not to think of su***de or any vendetta. When his father died (on May 13, 2023), it was a difficult moment.

“However, he is still bothered that the age of the girl was not proven with a birth certificate. The absence of some factors before a guilty verdict was passed gives him serious mental agony. He feels he has been unjustly punished.”

Most times during the trial, when Baba Ijesha appeared in court, he usually looked morose and dejected. On a particular day, he was seen clutching a Christian book titled, ‘How to Thrive in Perilous Times: Living Beyond the World System,’ written by Happy Caldwell.

You Robbed Into National Assembly Without Primary - Okorocha Taunts Lawan

Senator representing Imo West, Rochas Okorocha, has asked Senate President Ahmad Lawan for lessons on how to return to the senate without participating in primary election.

The former Imo state governor said this during the valedictory session of the 9th senate on Saturday.

The Senate President’s participation in the primary meant he would not be able to contest the Yobe north senatorial ticket of the APC, according to the Electoral Act.

Bashir Machina was declared winner of the primary election monitored by INEC.

The supreme court in a verdict, however affirmed Lawan as the authentic candidate.

Speaking at the valedictory session, Okorocha, who is not returning to the senate, wondered how Lawan made it.

“I did not contest for the senate this period. I only contested for the office of the president. You are a very smart politician. How you came back to the senate is another chapter in our political history that we need to discuss.

“I was there in the field with you running for president, I never knew how you were able to meander, leaving some of us. Next time you must teach me how to do that,” he said.
