Mindful Sojourning FB Live conversations, podcasts & blogs discussing the habits, attitudes, practices, & values needed Hey friends! Welcome to Mindful Sojourning.

Mindful Sojourning is an ongoing journey through life as a follower of Jesus asking the question “Why?”. When I was in 5th grade, my teacher made fun of me for asking too many questions. “Captain Why?” is what she called me which, at the time, it was neither given nor received as a compliment. But years later I realized that, even though this simple question may irritate people, it is one of the m

ost valuable tools we have. I am a husband, father, neighbor, friend, and amateur theologian. In addition to possessing an uncanny ability to ask the question “Why?”, I am a neighborhood community developer, fitness enthusiast, and closet drifter/wannabe surfer/beach bum. My mission here is two-fold: First, to help followers of Jesus discern what the Spirit of God is doing as we navigate the relatively new reality of post-Christendom. And secondly, to help the non-Christian world see the beauty of the God’s Kingdom and Jesus, our King.

The Back Story

This Mindful Sojourning experiment began as a conversation between Lamont Hartman and Jeff Saferite. As an African-American pastor, Lamont is calling for white leaders to raise their voices and speak into the issues of racial reconciliation and the church. Jeff lost a good portion of his church while attempting to speak into these issues.

This led to some good conversations between the two. While very much agreeing with him, Jeff suggested some reasons why many white leaders may be resistant to such a call. After losing nearly two-thirds of his church, he understands well the fear and risks of white leaders raising their voices. Jeff assured Lamont that he would do it a thousand times over before suggesting that a better way forward would be to develop a means for walking with pastors as they learn to develop their voice. These conversations led to the vision for this new project. The hope is to cultivate and model healthy conversations, for the church, that lead to constructive ways forward for leaders, their churches, and ultimately those most impacted by the injustices our culture is experiencing. We are connecting with leaders and others from a variety of streams to develop conversations and resources that help cultivate communities of presence and faithfulness. We invite you and your community into the conversation by joining our FB Live conversations, downloading our podcast, reading our blogs, and commenting on our posts. Feel free to message us with ideas, questions, or comments.
