Last week’s announcement that Derbyshire County Council was likely to increase its council tax by 4.99% was met with astonishment given that REFORM promised not to increase council tax at the election last May.
Now we understand that Erewash Borough Council which is Labour led is looking to announce NO rise in council tax this year – Erewash will launch an online survey so residents can give their views on its proposed budget, which also includes freezing car park charges. Household subscriptions to get garden waste collected would also be pegged. Meanwhile £4.5m will deliver projects to benefit the community. The consultation – after the council clinched an increase in the funding it gets from the Government – the consultation will run until Sun 10 Feb.

At the moment, we are really short of

Table sauces (ketchup, mayo, brown sauce)

If you could buy any of these items and donate them to us, it could really help.

You can leave your donation at one of our supermarket collection points
Asda Long Eaton

Sainsbury's Castle Donington
Co-op Castle Donington (Borough Street and Station Road)

Or you can bring your donations to one of our Foodbank sessions

Some Good News for those residents who use the pathway from the underpass near the Dales Estate, pass the allotments, onto Wilmot Street in Sawley.
After being told by the previous Erewash Borough Council that they had no money to install a tarmaced footpath - the new administration at Erewash will fund a tarmac footpath. The work will be completed by the end of March.
Working together with residents & allotment holders to get the path surfaced properly.
Thank you to Erewash - finally an end in sight of getting muddy shoes.

Advice from Derbyshire Fire & Rescue Service
A safety reminder about snow and ice 🧊 if you are travelling out and about in Derbyshire this weekend.

Met Office yellow warnings are in place today, tomorrow and into Monday (12 January) with the risk of ice and wintry showers across parts of Derbyshire.

Is the cold weather affecting where you live or travelling to?

Think, is your journey essential? If you must travel:
❄️Clear your car of snow and frost before you set off (including any snow on the roof of your car which can melt and fall down your windscreen limiting vision)
🚘Watch your speed - drive to the road and weather conditions
🚗Keep your distance - leave yourself plenty of space between other road users
🚶‍♂️If you're travelling on foot, take care as paths may be slippery and stay away from frozen water

For up-to-date weather warning information, visit: https://weather.metoffice.gov.uk/warnings-and-advice/uk-warnings #?date=2026-01-09
