Took a spin last week around the front at Clear Creek Golf Club, a much better than it gets credit for muni track in Bristol, VA. If this course was closer to work/home for us, we’d wear it out. For $40 for 18 + cart during the week & only $45 on weekends, it punches way above its price tag. Be a nice place to add on to a race trip (or in 2025!) at !

They have removed several fairway bunkers since the last time we’d played it, but the green side ones look like new. About 25% of the holes play around the massive lake and with wooded hills surrounding and so few houses on the course, this place is peak in leaf season! Coming soon! Gigiddy.

Can you name this course? Might be one of the least played courses in the South. Not much to go off of, but we haven’t played it either so know we wouldn’t have guessed it had we not taken the photo!

Back when hosted the Ryder Cup in 2018, Robert Von Hagge’s name was notoriously absent from the architect credit. We had just played on the Cape and wondered how on Esrth anyone would think RVH wasn’t “a” or even “the” guy.

A recent post by about Ridge Club reminded us of this controversy, so we dug up some old photos you might find sharing many characteristics with the same course now hosting the Olympic Golf Tournament. And yes, RVH’s design credit has been restored! (Probably thanks solely to the story we wrote that dozens of people read!) you’re welcome Robert - may he rest in peace.

The Donald Ross-designed Mt Washington Course may be the top-ranked course in New Hampshire, but the 9-hole Mount Pleasant Course at Omni Mount Washington Resort in Bretton Woods was there first!

Opened in 1895, the design credit goes to Alexander Findlay with renovations by Cornish/Silva in 1989. This sporty 3200 yarder features a linksy feel to start & finish, with narrow tree & scenic Ammonoosuc River lined holes in between. They also offer a 6-hole loop (shown in first frame in its entirety), but then you’d miss the horseback riders depart from the corrals along 6 fairway! Oh yeah, and views of the Inn aren’t bad either! Fun way to start or end the day!

We thought about doing a series called “don't drone over these courses” (working title only). The point would be to shower some love from above on courses that typically wouldn't get it. If we do it, the first entry in that series would be Oak Hill Golf Course; a 2347 yard, par 34 quirkfest in New Hampshire’s Lake Country. Directional flags, weird signs, signaling bells, stone walls, and much more will all be shared in a later post, but for now enjoy the aerial views, the “rustic” & the strange bunker rake storage practices! Course played number 583 on The Golf Crusade!

Visited Egwani Farms this past weekend and came away thoroughly impressed after playing our 579th course on the road to 1000. VALUE comes to mind with firm/fast conditions, a course full of challenging/memorable shots and a great pace of play for a beautiful Friday morning, all for under $50. Check them out when in the area!

A couple cloudy spring morning looks at a couple corners of the back nine of Pine Oaks Golf Course in Johnson City TN. One of the few cool season-grassed courses in East Tennessee, it’s very popular with the local set thanks to the always green conditions, max rate of just $40 weekends to ride & a silly $15 unlimited walking rate Mon-Thurs!

Spent the day - for the first time in many years - out at for the (TN) Chamber tourney. "We're working on some things" is an adequate paraphrase from the owner this morning (carts, bunkers). The course is billed as a design, but the only Ross thing remaining in the course is the name on the scorecard. It's build year (1947) makes it highly unlikely he was ever there in person (but possible). Not that we were asked, but flipping the nines & cutting 9 out of every 10 trees along the South Fork Holston River would help build to a quartet of holes with panoramic views, finishing below the clubhouse seen here.

Wells College announced this week it will be closing its doors along the shores of Cayuga Lake after 156 years of operation. While its educational legacy began only three years after the Civil War. While coed since 2004, the school is primarily known as a women's college. One former alumna (and trustee) is Ione Davis Jones, wife of famed golf course architect Robert Trent Jones. once redesigned several holes on their 9-hole campus golf course that opened in 1923.

Preston Country Club was one of the first courses we ever shot with intent to benefit our hosts (below photo included!!). It in fact predated the formstion of The Golf Crusade. If you’re in Northern WV and haven’t been there, check them out! Great people and very diverse course for being a rare flat parcel of land (once owned by George Washington) in the !
