Gumbo for the Soul: Called to Serve Vol. I, is currently under development by the visionary team of Gumbo for the Soul International®. Beverly Black Johnson is the creator of the award-winning Gumbo for the Soul Publications, Gumbo for the Soul Literacy Program, and TRIBE Family Channel.
This anthology will be the first in an ongoing series created to honor men and women of service in the capacity of the military, ministry, medical field, volunteerism, education, etc. alongside the impact of their roles in the family and the community, while focusing on philanthropy. As always, our publications focus on health, wellness, and education. Our first book published in 2005, Gumbo for the Soul: The Recipe for Literacy in the Black Community, endorsed by Tavis Smiley, was a huge success - garnering two literary awards and spawning Gumbo for the Soul Literacy Program, through which thousands of publications have been donated to individuals and organizations worldwide. Not to be outdone, we have since released five more publications with contributors from around the world who expounded on their loved ones’ many accomplishments, valor and bouts in life they would overcome. These were focused on adoption, breast, and prostate cancers.
This edition, due out Veteran’s Day 2020, will take its place on our shelves as a sure-to-be best seller. You are invited to participate in three ways:
