Something compelled me... I was still over 5000 miles from home... in another port... Florida served a critical role in the development of two central characters... Garrett Vasher and Jesse Bowen... so I came back for a final run through... to get the script right... from Jacksonville to Dry Tortuga, I drove the A1A along the Atlantic and came back up on the gulf side, covering every inch of ground that had been stuck inside my head... after growing up in the Keys... Jesse would leave Islamorada... sailing south... exiting the Atlantic side for the Pacific via the Panama Canal... enroute to Palau... Garrett... after a midnight visit to Fisher Island... would travel north to Whitefish, Montana... to heal old wounds... only to have them ripped wide open...

I knew there was something beyond the setting sun... a Southern Cross... calling out my name... calling me home once again... I was westward bound... again... destined to make the jump across the pond... again... to a known destination... that held the unforeseen... this hat... and another... green... emblazoned with a honu... are symbols carrying immense māna... a meaning meant for me to comprehend... I followed a hōkū... a luminous celestial body... that appeared to me some time prior... to the very spot I now reside...

A while back I had a vision… as clear and as real as if I was standing a foot from you and telling you a story… I know exactly where… I just don’t know when… but I initiated what will hopefully be a series of sn*******ng events that will bring the vision…. granted to me by a force I do not comprehend… to transform to reality… made possible by immense focus and perseverance, work and grit.

If given enough time… and with the right pressure… applied at the right time… in the right place… everyone will reveal their truth self…

And it will hurt… but on the other side of the pain… is strength… and with strength comes courage… and for a moment… when the most important moment comes… fear shall slip away… and then you will know…

I don’t know why I am so fortunate… to have finally arrived back here… after so much turmoil… pain and suffering… to live in this Country… in this State… in the only place I have ever referred to as home… and absolutely… I am grateful… I count the gifts granted me every single day… and I pay tribute to those now gone… friends, lovers, and fallen comrades… and I remain fully aware of the injustices… here and around the world… and the horrific acts of the past and the present…and I face down the constant fear of not being able to cope anymore… that sense of being completely… overwhelmed… a state of maximum sensory overload… a weight unbearable… a sense of failure that I did not do my part… that I did not do enough… in making this planet better than when I first arrived… to have made some kind of a positive impact in the lives of others… in a world gone utterly insane…

This isn’t going to end well. Murdering civilians and dragging dead IDF soldiers has immediately galvanized the west and this is going to escalate beyond any recent war. All that will remain will be mushroom clouds.

The Miss Hawaii ohana is grieving today as we lost an icon, a legend and an absolutely beautiful soul. Miss Hawaii 1964, Leina’ala Ann Teruya Drummond. 🙏🏼

The stunning beauty from Wailuku, who performed a monologue, placed in the top 10 at Miss America and is forever recognized as the inspiration behind the iconic Hawaiian Airlines face which symbolizes aloha worldwide. Hearing Leina’ala tell the story behind that beautiful symbol was always a lovely treat. 🌺

Rest in love and aloha - your light shines brightly for the rest of the world to see. Our prayers and thoughts are with her ohana during this challenging time.
