Another successful premier of 18 short-documentaries at the Digital Gym Cinema thanks to the Media Arts Center San Diego and the San Diego Central Library. All of this content is produced by young filmmakers from SD. Our trainees go on to receive $550 and a guaranteed paid internship. My role is to train them with all of the equipment, Edith g and ultimately producing a short-film. Super proud of my boy who continues to push our film forward and will be in Guadalajara to present our narrative feature DMDC at the Museo Cabañas as part of the Festival Internacional del arte y del cine Independiente MIAX. Congrats to our team Jo Kamimura, Pedro Vargas Madrigal, Frida María, Andrea Pérez Esquivel, Jorge Iván Rubio Ortiz, Rodolfo Hernandez de Anda and all of our talent. Come check out the short films our Workforce Development Interns have been working on during their 6-week training! On Saturday at 10am we will be watching their films at the in downtown. Each will be awarded $550 and they will be placed on a paid internship with the city 🔥 we start another round of training in January. Come support these new local SD filmmakers. Super proud of them.

Looking for young filmmakers 18-30 for a paid opportunity to get trained to make videos (We pay you $550 at the end of training[6 weeks, Monday Wednesday, Friday) and then we place you a PAID internship 16.65/hr with the city of San Diego at an Idea Lab. You will be producing video content for them.

This is a great opportunity for anyone looking to get their foot in the door. We have 12 slots open at various locations across the county. Program starts next month. Filling up the slots fast. Please submit the form and DM for more information.

Learned about Dhaqan Celis from Nurhdiin “Nafiez” Mohamed one of my students at Hoover High School. He’s American but was taken to Somalia for 2 years to learn about his culture, religion, and language. He enjoyed his time there as well as the food… he’ll have a video coming out in January where he talks about his experience with this right of passage.

Anyone whose ever made a video knows that it's a lot of work. Definitely not as glamorous as mainstream media makes it seem. So the fact that these students got this far (working on their own for the most part) is a huge accomplishment. I think Media Arts Center San Diego made it a priority to select individuals from diverse backgrounds too which I definitely appreciate. I'm also grateful at the fact that they had a Mexican American filmmaker help them through the process. Thanks again to everyone involved! If anyone is interested we have a virtual screening of the Age-Friendly Film Festival coming up on Wednesday! I'll be chatting a little more about the film production process.

Just finished shooting an Interview with Beto Vasquez someone who I’ve always looked up to for making a difference in the lives of our most vulnerable and undeserved student populations. Because of him I learned about Salzburg Global Seminar and applied for an internship in 2017. I spent 3 months in Austria and another one backpacking and getting to know the world. If it wasn’t for Beto posting about it I would have never found out about it. Thank you Beto for everything you do and for continuing to empower our youth! Looking forward to sharing a final video.

I feel like a proud parent 😂 last night a group a young filmmakers I mentored through a 4 month fellowship screened their short-documentaries at the first ever Age-Friendly Film festival. The top 3 were awarded $4000 in cash prices 🔥 Its powerful to be a part of something that encourages our youth to pursue their dreams and passions. Thank you Media Arts Center San Diego and Ethan Van Thillo for allowing me to be a part of this. Cheers!

At the beginning of this year I took a job teaching filmmaking with the Media Arts Center of San Diego as my way of giving back the community. Today one of my student groups wrapped up shooting a short film with talent that drove down all the way from LA. Super proud of them and all their hard work. 👍🏽
