beyond labels | styling Japanese Americana

"Japanese culture values efficiency, a sentiment reflected well in its fashion ethos. Amidst evolving Western influences, Japanese Americana has preserved this celebration of craftsmanship while embracing an effortless aesthetic. beyond labels is Cold Tea Collective's fashion, arts and culture column. In our latest story, staff writer Evan-Thomas May shares his styling tips for dressing in Japanese Americana style, while also learning of the roots and intersections of the expression of culture in this style.

LET’S TALK ABOUT MENTAL HEALTH.

Did you know people of colour are at higher risk of dropping out of mental health treatment prematurely? Besides the cost, another less talked about reason is a lack of cultural understanding from mental health professionals.

Solving these issues is at the heart of Asian-founded Anise Health, a digital mental health platform that provides culturally responsive therapy, coaching, and curated digital resources.

We spoke to co-founder Nisha Desai about her journey with mental health and how she navigated her way through the challenges she faced with the mental health of her and her peers, and the lack of available resources.

In her book, Nervous: Essays on Heritage and Healing, Soriano brings to light the complexities of intergenerational trauma, unconventional healing modalities, and the crucial role of community and family in healing.
