Waterdog Records Waterdog Studios is a recording studio in Chicago, IL Whitehouse Records, a "sister" label to Waterdog, started in 1994.

Waterdog Records was co-founded in 1991 by Ralph Covert, lead man for the Bad Examples, and Jay Whitehouse, a musician, music fan and indie music insider for 11 years. In a seven-year period, the two labels released or reissued over 30 CDs by a wide range of musical talent. A restructuring in 1999 saw the creation of a new entity: Waterdog Music. The combined labels released the early efforts of s

uch now-rising stars as Kat Parsons and Carey Ott of Torben Floor. At present Waterdog Music is solely concentrating on the career of Ralph Covert and his Bad Examples and Ralph's World musical efforts. Absolute Records was formed in 1986 by Styx's hard rockin' guitarist James "JY" Young to launch his solo career with "City Slicker," and 1993's "Out On A Day Pass." JY released a group effort with The James Young Group, with one full album (and a lot of great live gigs) completed. In 1995, JY teamed up with Whitehouse Records to co-release the JY Group's "Raised By Wolves" as well as re-releasing his first two efforts. Styx bandmate Tommy Shaw's CD's ("Girls With Guns," and "What If") were remixed, remastered, and re-released through Absolute as well but are now out-of-print. JY and Tommy are always on tour with Styx.

The Bad Examples at FitzGerald’s in Berwyn tomorrow, Friday, November 10. Doors at 7:30, McKinley James opening at 8:30, TBE at 9:30.

It will be our first time back at FitzGerald’s since before COVID. Let’s celebrate life, community, and the power of music. I think you’ll love our new band uniforms as well!

Glen Ellyn Backyard BBQ — music all day, great beer, and BBQ, all for a good cause! I play from 3:30-4:15, with special guests Panic at the Costco joining me for a wham jam!

Tuesday night 7-9:30 I’ll be playing two songs at Hey Nonny in Arlington Heights competing in their “Rock the Suburbs” songwriting contest! Come by and vote!

Tomorrow morning I’ll be on WGN TV news (5 times…) playing music at the Illinois Rock & Roll Museum Hall of Fame to promote our big show on Saturday September 16 at The Forge in Joliet.

This Saturday, September 9, I’ll be at the Glen Ellyn Backyard BBQ, performing from 3:30-4:15, both solo acoustic and then backed by Panic at the Costco, who open the fest at 2pm. (Come early and catch them— they’re super fun!) EP8 and Libido Funk Circus perform later as well. It’ll be a party raising funds for a great cause, Bridge Communities, who provide housing and support for homeless families.

47 shows in the month of June, finishing with a rip-roaring 100 silly kids at the Bonita Sunnyside Library in San Diego. Tonight my gal and I are heading out to Oaxaca, somewhere I’ve wanted to visit for decades. Life is short. No excuses. Get out of your own way. Happiness is a choice. That’s the direction you should be going in your journey.
