About Growing Up Moonie
So there’s this cult called the Unification Church, you might know them as the Moonies. They were led by a Sun Myung Moon who said he was the Second Coming of Jesus Christ. In the ’70s and ’80s Moonies became really famous for their mass weddings. You might be thinking this is just another podcast about cults, stories about small town scandals, creepy rituals, and manipulation. But Growing Up Moonie takes a different perspective; instead of focusing on the strange rituals of the church and the media’s obsession with the leader we’re going to ask people who were born into the church what it was like. And the person asking those questions will be a former Moonie himself. This is a podcast where you’ll hear stories of the trauma, pain, awkwardness, and maybe even a little hope that can come from growing up in a cult. This is Growing Up Moonie.
