December draws in and so does the spirit of Chirstmas. ✨🎄 Today, SWU Phinma opens the Christmas season with the Festival of Lights 2022.

The program kicked off with surprise games and gifts to students of various public elementary schools. The cold afternoon was serenaded by our own School of Medicine SWUcapella. SWU dance troupe entertained the school as well as the champion of the caroling contest from College of Dentistry.

SWU Phinma Hall is now lit up brightly to celebrate the joys of the season. Merry Christmas Medicos! ✨🎄

Medical Students from the School of Medicine, along with different medical undergraduate programs of the Southwestern University-PHINMA, celebrate the World Antimicrobial Awareness Week 2022 with the theme, "Sama-samang magtulungan upang Antimicrobial Resistance mapigilan". It was held on the 29th day of November 2022, 7th floor of the PHINMA Hall, from 9 am to 3 pm.

The Student's Forum on AMR and Food Safety Caravan was a joint effort of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations, The Flemming Fund, UKAID, Department of Agriculture through the Bureau of Animal Industry, and the Southwestern University-PHINMA to promote awareness of the globally rising public health concern, Antimicrobial Resistance.

The use, overuse, and misuse of antibiotics is the leading cause of an ongoing silent pandemic. The long-term effects of antimicrobial Resistance (AMR) being shared among humans, animals, and the environment can lead to increased morbidity and mortality. Antimicrobial drug development has been dwindling throughout the years due to higher costs for research and production. In agriculture, specifically food animals, AMR can affect food production due to the increased cost of animal treatment, food safety, and even food insecurity.

The campaign, iAMResponsible, reminds everyone that AMR is a shared responsibility, and encourages people to use the right drug, the right dose, right duration to mitigate the public health concern.
