An important photograph for today. Taken exactly 92 years to the day, this is the original earliest surviving photograph of the theatre. The opening ceremony.

HOW THIS WAS REPORTED:

“Today will rank as one of the most important of the many enterprises carried through the municipality of Largs. We are quite certain that the 2000 people who will have an opportunity of viewing the interior of the building this evening will endorse and supplement this opinion The arrangement of the seats enables a first class view of the stage from any angle. The stage itself is similar in size to most of the theatre stages in Glasgow and elsewhere, and will permit of full dress productions of practically any entertainment common to the theatre."

The opening ceremoy took place at 12noon and people of the town were given free tickets to a variety show that evening.

Always hankered after a career in script writing for TV or just fascinated to learn more? Now’s your chance, as Ardrossan born TV Script Writer Johnny McKnight is interviewed live at Saltcoats Town Hall by the hugely successful podcast creator of The Braw and The Brave. From 2pm on Saturday 12th March, Johnny McKnight will take to the stage to be interviewed about his award winning career spanning everything from script writing for River City and Holby as well as performing in plays off Broadway in New York to his latest project working on; 101 Dalmatians to be performed in Regent’s Park London later this year. He will also talk about his work in over 30 pantomimes at the Tron Theatre in Glasgow and Macrobert Arts Centre in Stirling, plus touring the UK. “Despite all I have achieved, my heart has never left Ardrossan”, said Johnny. He continued: “Sometimes, when I’m working on these amazing projects I have to pinch myself to check it’s all really happening! I’d love to think I can help and encourage other people to follow in my footsteps and have their dream career.” Johnny will be interviewed live on stage by the creator of The Braw and The Brave podcast, Lisa Kennedy, who is very much a leader in the arts scene in Scotland. Her podcast has already notched up an incredible 176 episodes and 51,000 hits since it originated in 2019. In partnership with North Ayrshire council, Lisa Kennedy is thrilled to be bringing the podcast to LIVE audiences born and bred locally! The Braw and The Brave In Conversation with Johnny McKnight is on Saturday 12th March at 2pm at Saltcoats Town Hall. The following week the podcast Live will move to The Vallhalladrome Theatre at Vikingar! in Largs where Lisa will be interviewing Largs-born songwriter, filmmaker and Brownbear frontman Matt Hickman on Friday 18th March at 7.30pm at Vikingar, Largs.
