How diving looks like in The Philippines in 30 seconds.Did you guys know that the Philippines is the World’s Leading Dive Destination in 2021? That’s for the third time in a row!As mentioned in one of my posts, the Philippines does not only belong in the magnificent Coral Triangle, dubbed as the Amazon of the Ocean that is home to 600 coral species, 2,000 reef fish species, and six out of the world’s seven species of marine turtles—but is also, as marine scientists have pinpointed, at the center of it, making the country home to the richest marine ecosystem on the planet. Since the pandemic, I have appreciated my country more because of diving. For those of you planning to visit Philippines soon, I can’t wait to hear your dive stories 🤿 (Video by Claude Evangelista) Dive Philippines #DiveReady #DivePhilippines #ItsMoreFunInThePhilippines
Panglao is one of my go-to dive sites as I’ve probably mentioned already in one of my many Bohol posts. The island is known for its world-class diving sites, it’s the perfect place for people who want to try & start scubadiving / freediving cause even in the shallow parts of the ocean, you can already see so much life. Yet aside from the underwater sights, a big part of why I love going back & forth to the island, is because of the warmth of the local community.
Typhoon Odette affected a lot of islands close to my heart including Panglao, Bohol. Even if it has been over 2 months, the damage that the typhoon left will take years for a lot of islands to completely recover.
One way we can help is to support the locals who have kept Bohol beautiful for tourists. Waves For Water continues to distribute clean water filtration systems to communities around the island. You can donate / volunteer with them when you’re in Bohol.
I haven’t been back in the island but I have great friends who are consistently finding ways to help the community & our oceans.
