For me the love of Spawn started in a comic book store in Athens in 1992! That year one of the co-founders of Image comics gave us the story of Al Simmons and his torments as Spawn! Fast forward 2007 at my second San Diego Comic Con and im handing over to Todd McFarlane a folder with concept, back story and designs of an idea...a greek spawn, a Spartan Spawn! I came up with the greek persona of Sp
artan Spawn after having watched and collected most of the action figures that McFarlane Toys manufactured! Their action figure toy lines had everything from Vikings, Samurais, Robots, Cyborgs, Pirates, Cowboys.... and i thought to myself why not a Greek Warrrior Spawn??? Greek Mythology is so cool that it could provide footsteps for this type of idea. So i talked to my friend and collaborator Yannis Roumboulias and asked him if he was interested in designing the characters for the action figures! Fortunatelly he said yes and after a while i was handing the first designs of Ancient Spawn Series 1 to Todd. I told him that he could do anything he wanted with those concepts, their were his to do as he pleased, no problem by us... we just wanted a free action figure as a thank you! Since that was done it occured to me that it would be awesome to have a comicbook to support and promote the action figure line (not that it was needed). So i spoke with Suzy Thomas (internationl rights manager) and Brian Haberlin who was then the chief editor of McFarlane Productions, and told me to make a full presentation! Spoke with Yannis again and together we came up with the basic scenario and the name of our protagonist Antimachus! In a month i had finished a 70page script of Antimachus journey from Spartan warrior of the kings guard to cursed Grimson Cloaked Spawn. An adventure that took place around the period of the Peloponnesian Wars. Next Yannis sketched the characters for the comic book and several pages that were afterwards colored by our friend Nikos Deligaris! Some time after our work was pitched to Todd but unfortunatelly he wasnt interested in doing something with it at that moment! This FAN PAGE was created so the public can see our work that was inspired by the 20year old stories created from all the people that worked in some way or another in the original comic series or the others that came up later!
