Bengaluru After facing flak from the opposition Congress and Kannada organisations for ignoring Kannada in banking examinations, the Centre on Tuesday said a committee has been constituted to look into the demand for holding examinations for clerical cadre in Public Sector Banks (PSBs) in local/regional languages. “The committee will give its recommendations within 15 days. The ongoing process of holding the examination initiated by Institute of Banking Personnel Selection (IBPS) will be kept on hold until the recommendations of the committee are made available,” said a statement issued by the Press Information Bureau....

Bengaluru Despite reporting a low number of deaths, Karnataka is seeing an increase in mortality rate. Chandigarh The Punjab government on Wednesday announced waiver of Rs 590 crore worth of loans under the farm debt waiver scheme for labourers and the landless farming community. The cheques would be issued at a state-level function on August 20, said an official spokesperson after a meeting held on Tuesday. New Delhi With several courts still functioning on rented premises, the Union Cabinet Wednesday approved a five-year extension for a centrally sponsored scheme for developing infrastructure for the judiciary, a statement said. The Centrally Sponsored Scheme (CSS) for Development of Infrastructure Facilities for Judiciary has been in operation since 1993-94. An official statement said that in the extended term, it would continue from April 1, 2021 to March 31, 2026 during which Rs 9,000 crore would be spent with the Central share of Rs 5,357 crore, including Rs 50 crore for the Gram Nyayalaya Scheme....
