Am Sonntag wird das Radio in Deutschland 100 Jahre alt. Bei knapp 30 Freien Radios im deutschsprachigen Raum wird sich aus diesem Anlass in Live-Diskussionen, Features, Interviews und anderen Formaten zwei Tage (28+29.10) lang alles um die Geschichte, Gegenwart und Zukunft (nicht nur) Freier Radios drehen. Die Sendungen werfen einen Blick zurück auf Arbeiterradiobewegung, Freie Radio Bewegung, Piratenradios im Realsozialismus und ostdeutsche Radiopiraterie nach 1989. Sie erweitern die Perspektive um internationale Erfahrungen Freier Radios und rufen emanzipatorische Radio- und Medientheorien ins Gedächtnis. Sie betrachten die aktuelle Übernahme des Begriffs »Alternativmedien« durch rechte Strömungen und fragen nach berechtigter Kritik am öffentlich-rechtlichen Rundfunk. Und in all dem suchen sie nach Perspektiven für eine Demokratisierung der Öffentlichkeit.

The performance of Budima at Sinazongwe School and Sinazongwe Community Radio Station was coinciding with a concert of the Zimbabwe band Mokoomba staged by Radio B138 in Austria. As part of the cultural exchange, groups of pupils in Sinazongwe Zambia, across Kariba in Binga Zimbabwe and in Almtal Upper Austria are building radio bridges by an exchange of audio letters. Stay tuned !

VOICES FROM HAMM is a series of short films produced by displaced women and children who now live in Hamm in Westphalia. Behind each of the videos, a woman’s detailed audio interview invites for further, deeper listening. A radio trailer invites to use the project’s archived resources in teaching, research, remix or broadcasts.
"Stimmen aus Hamm" was a project to boost societal participation of displaced women and children with media workshops and joint audio-video productions. We worked with regularly meeting groups at three local organisations from Sept.-Dec. 2022. A series of 10 short films was produced. Detailed audio interviews with the women and mothers were edited and synchronized to visual material (video and drawing) that the children produced.

On Friday, 18 November, more than twenty women, mothers and children from eight nations met in the rooms of the Internationales Frauen-Forum Hamm e.V. under the heading "Developing ideas". In the last workshop of the series VOICES FROM HAMM for the time being, the aim was to exchange experiences from workshops and individual interviews and to collect emerging ideas that can lead us beyond the project. The speaker Mahtab Dardarsefatmahboob from Netzwerk medien.vielfalt confidently led the women through the exchange, in which four different languages were used, and she brought in her own diverse experiences as a media-making mother and migrant. A small collection of audio excerpts from the video productions currently being made was a concrete starting point for the discussions among the women. "I am really enthusiastic about this group of strong women who have come together here," was the feedback from the speaker Mahtab.

Die zurzeit noch entstehenden Projektfilme STIMMEN AUS HAMM sollen am 2. Dezember 2022 im Rahmen der Ausstellung „Nothing about us without us“ veröffentlicht werden.
Hier ein kleiner Audio Vorgeschmack.
Die Playlist bringt kleine Auszüge aus einstündigen Interviews zusammen, die 2022 und 2021 in Hamm entstanden. In den Interviews erzählen Frauen über ihr Leben hier und in ihren Herkunftsländern und über ihre Erfahrungen von Migration und Flucht. "Discovering creative writing" was the motto of the fifth workshop in the series VOICES FROM HAMM on Friday, 21 October 2022. About twenty women, mothers and children from seven nations met in the rooms of the Internationales Frauen-Forum Hamm e.V. under the guidance of the speaker Mahtab Dardarsefatmahboob from the Media diversity network.
"I think it’s been very encouraging for all the participating women to see how each one was able to use the workshop offer for her own personal benefit and yet at the same time something common was created among us; since Mahtab brought to the group not only the techniques of creative writing but also her experience of making media together of the nationwide network of media makers with a refugee or migrational background," says project facilitator Claudia Wegener. The project VOICES FROM HAMM is about making media, finding one's voice and making social diversity visible and audible locally. Results and productions from the project will be presented on 2 December at the exhibition opening of the Netzwerk Medien.Vielfalt "Nothing about us without us" in the city library.

We may still look forward to the stories and productions for a while. Three more open workshops are still on the programme until the final event with exhibition opening in the public library on 2 December.
