The 85th edition of the AIONIAN GAMES, hosted by the prestigious Ijebu Ode Grammar School, came to an end over the weekend.

The very best of youth sports among South West Legacy Schools was on display, accompanied by fun fare and great AIONIAN BROTHERHOOD spirit, thus reviving the essence of the AIONIAN founding fathers.

In March 1930, Fela Anikulapo Kuti's father, the late Rev. Israel Oludotun Ransome Kuti, who was then the principal of Ijebu-OdeGrammar School, along with the late Rev. W R.B Kuye, the principal of Abeokuta Grammar School, late Rev. A.B Akindele of Ibadan Grammar School, and late Rev. M C Adeyemi of Ondo Boys High School came together at a meeting at St Andrew's College Oyo to form the AIONIAN GROUP OF SCHOOLS.

The AIONIAN BROTHERHOOD has since grown from 4 schools to 12 schools spread all over South West Nigeria. Schools in the brotherhood share an annual sports and academic festival held on rotation among all the schools.

The 85th edition saw dignitaries from all walks of life gracing the festival, including the Ogun State Governor, who was represented by the Commissioner for Education, Science, and Technology, Prof. Abayomi Arigbabu, a proud alumnus of Ijebu Ode Grammar School.

Other notable attendees included Senator Lekan Mustapha, Otunba Kunle Bolujoko (National President of Ijebu Ode Grammar School Old Boys Association),Elese of Ilese HRH Oba Oluremi Abayomi a proud alumnus of JOGS, Prof. Bankole Okuwa (proud alumnus of JOGS & AIONIAN GAMES long & triple jump record holder for a long time before it was broken by Abayomi Ajomale of JOGS), Engr E.B Osoba (past president of JOGSOBA) and many other VIPs.

Ondo House (Ondo Boys High School) will be the host of the 86th edition.

Ojude Oba Festival: Culture, Heritage, Pomp & Pageantry.

Ojude Oba which represents "the King's fore-court or frontage" is an ancient festival celebrated by the Ijebu people of Ogun State, Southwestern Nigeria.

This annual festival usually takes place the third day after Eid al-Kabir (Ileya), to pay homage and show respect to the Royal Majesty, the Awujale of Ijebuland by different cultural age groups are known as Regberegbes and different horse-riding families which are led by the Baloguns (Descendants of Ijebu war heroes are regarded as the Baloguns).

It is one of the most spiritual and glamorous festivals celebrated in Ijebuland and in Nigeria as a whole.

Ojude-Oba Festival is a one-day celebration of culture,
fashion, glamour, candor, and royalty of sons and daughters of Ijebuland.
