Enjoying the tunes of , a bluegrass band from South Korea! We got to gorgeous Grass Valley this evening for the Assoc’s Father’s Day Bluegrass Festival. Our AirBnB feels like it’s in the middle of nowhere- absolutely perfect. But luckily we’re NOT actually in the middle of nowhere so I can get bug spray, a notebook, and hit up the local yarn store.

Last night was closing night of Imagination alchemy at the SD Fringe 2024. I told Chicken Tiki Masala, a story about what happens AFTER the good witch gets revenge for her family’s deaths. The story map got quite epic (there’s also a pile of suggestion cards on the floor!). This was such a wonderful crowd, and I’m so grateful to have been able to play with them!! 🎭🎭 I loved doing this Very Silly Thing, and I’m going to do it again some day. Look for it again under a new name: Never Told Before, Never Heard Again 🎭🎭

If you’re fringing this weekend DEFINITELY get to Intolerant. Ima walks the fine line between hilarity and honesty in singing (very well!) about food intolerance and Crohn’s disease. Highly recommend!

Today’s Imagination Alchemy started in an amusement park run by a love-starved witch, and featured a teacher who cant read and has a fish BFF. 🎭🎭 a great time was had by… well, by ME! And probably some others, too. 🎭🎭 three more chances to catch this WORLD PREMIER storytelling experience.

This was fu***ng delightful! Best panic attack I’ve ever had over a cup of tea.

The first Imagination Alchemy story started in a dungeon! In this moment, the dungeoneer (a potion maker wearing silver sequins and blood red lipstick) releases her captives into the creepiest party ever.

There are more 4 chances to play with me! Imagination Alchemy is at the San Diego Fringe Festival through May 23, at No Limits Lincoln Park. Details are on my website.

just thinking about how juicy and delicious a big breath can be and how nothing can be created without breath and people will wait for you to take a breath when you need one even though you feel like they’ll get bored and leave without you but maybe, just maybe, they’ll take a big juicy delicious breath with you.

The San Diego Fringe Festival opened last night and I was fortunate to catch these two shows on their opening night. 🎭🎭 We Don’t Say Kill is a traditional one act thriller with twists that kept me super engaged and falling in love with the characters, even during a late night show. Highly recommend! 🎭🎭 Falling On Track is a one-person staged musical. I found so much of myself in the story that I didn’t zone out at all, despite a VERY late curtain time and fairly static staging. Recommend for anyone with an on-again-off-again relationship with art. 🎭🎭 My show opens tonight, and I’ll hang around to watch the others in my venue. Stay tuned here for recommendations!

It’s happening!!! My Fringe Show, Imsgination Alchemy, is in less than a week, and the tools of the work are gathering! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 these little postcards look simple, but on the back are instructions that took SO LONG to figure out. WHAT makes a “good” character suggestion vs what will weigh down the story? WHAT is a “good” setting that will allow the story to become what it wants to be? And, most importantly, HOW do I explain it at in a way that makes my audience feel loved and uplifted? ✨✨Come join in the story-making magic at the San Diego Fringe! Tickets are $13 and available through the link on my website.

Welp. I'm juror #19 on a possible 4-week jury trial. They need 15 jurors.

Now accepting bets about my chances and also wine.

ETA: I did not get selected. There were 50 prospective jurors in the room, and they went all the way to 49.

Reading this collection of Chinese tales on my lunch break. It’s kind of like a Grimm’s collection. Some real weird s**t! There’s a story about a man with tiny people living in his eyeballs, for example. I’m loving this book, and hating the 1916 translation. You’ll notice that the original (Chinese) author’s name isn’t even on the cover… it doesn’t get better 🙄 I may need to find another translation to make sure the stories haven’t been whitewashed past recognition.

ETA: the original author’s name is P’u Sung-ling.

Clara Original is a story about the power of unconditional love to overcome the darkness of perfectionism. It takes place during Christmas, so it's perfect for the season!

This is an original story by me, inspired by a poem by Alexis Rotella.

Told at Julian Country Christmas, where it was 40 degrees, on November 25, 2023.

I grew up in a secular home. We celebrated Christmas with a tree and gifts and new jammies. So when I craft Christmas stories, I am challenged to pinpoint the universal experiences of the holiday that ring true to me. I don’t often find that in stories by other people, so I create my own!

Here’s the Christmas story I crafted in 2022: Bittersweet, a story about the family that’s with you even when you’re alone.

This was told with the Storytellers of San Diego at the Twisted Horn in Vista.

“When the skeleton children come out to play,
They laugh as they dance. They sing and they sway!
But beware: for you’ll dance a whole year away
If you’re dancing with skeletons come break of day.”

That verse was the genesis of The Skeleton Woman. It’s not in the story any more, except in confetti-sized pieces. The verse was inspired by a song I heard at Julian Family Fiddle Camp.

I followed my questions: whose kids are these? Why do they dance? Who takes care of them? And as I peeled back the layers, I found the Bug Girl, the Butterfly Lady, and the Skeleton Woman waiting for me.

I needed to tell the story of this woman who “cried herself down to her bones.” I’m grateful to the folks who listened and gave feedback as I learned more about her and the people who hurt her.

There’s at least one more revision forthcoming, and I expect it to grow each time I tell it. That’s the cool thing about oral story traditions: nothing is ever set in stone!

Here's a video of the performance of Skeleton Woman on Oct 30 at Reds, Whites, and Brews:
