Irate soldiers beat LASTMA officer in Ojota
Eight irate soldiers beat a LASTMA officer to a pulp in Ojota, Lagos, on Monday morning. The incident, which is believed to be a reprisal attack, happened at around 8am.
The soldiers reportedly pounced on the LASTMA officer, who was yet to be identified, after he stopped them for a traffic offence. They punched and kicked him repeatedly, and even used planks to hit him.
The victim was left in a state of shock and had to be rushed to the hospital for treatment.
It is believed that the soldiers attacked the LASTMA officer in retaliation for an incident that happened last week, in which some LASTMA officers were alleged to have beaten up a soldier in the same area.
The Lagos State government has condemned the attack and called for the soldiers to be brought to justice. The army has also promised to investigate the matter and bring the perpetrators to book.
