𝓟𝓮𝓻𝓹𝓮𝓽𝓾𝓪𝓵𝓲𝓽𝓮𝓼 𝓿𝓸𝔂𝓪𝓰𝓮 𝔀𝓲𝓽𝓷𝓮𝓼𝓼𝓲𝓷𝓰 𝓽𝓱𝓮 𝔀𝓸𝓻𝓵𝓭'𝓼 𝓶𝔂𝓽𝓱𝓲𝓬𝓪𝓵 𝓬𝓻𝓮𝓪𝓽𝓾𝓻𝓮𝓼

SHS Perpetualites paraded their portrayals of mythical creatures around the UPHSD-Calamba Campus as part of the English Month celebration themed “Rediscover, Rekindle, Relive English Through Strengthening Communication and Making Connection Through Life Language, and Literature” last November 27, 2024, highlighting their fashion sense and inventiveness while advocating issues stood up against by their respective countries.

The event formally started with an opening prayer led by Ms. Aurea Acbang and an opening statement by Dr. Analee San Diego to elucidate the event. As each representative walked to the runway and the video presentation appeared to educate students about their mythical creature and various issues to spread awareness, the camaraderie and creativity were evident in each section—students waved their flaglets, and screams echoed throughout the gymnasium, articulating their support as the winners were announced:

Nag-init ang atmospera sa bulwagan ng University of Perpetual Help System Dalta Calamba sa naganap na maaksyong tagisan ng talino sa pagitan ng House of Amethyst at House of Citrine sa Social Science Final Debate na bahagi ng pagdiriwang ng Social Science and English Month noong Nobyembre 26, 2024.

Sinimulan ang programa sa pambungad na tpananalita ni Ma’am Benilda Quibral, na sinundan ng pagpapakilala sa mga hurado: Mr. Carlos Erwin I. Fajardo, Ma’am Ma. Cristina M. Grumal, at PCapt. Maria Ausiliacris A. Diokno.

Tinalakay sa debate ang kontrobersyal na isyu ng imbestigasyon ng International Criminal Court (ICC) sa War on Drugs ng administrasyong Duterte. Naging proposisyon ang House of Amethyst at binigyang-diin nila ang kahalagahan ng pakikialam ng ICC upang mabigyan ng hustisya ang mga biktima ng extrajudicial killings.

Ayon kay Margarette Eunice Cortez, "𝘐𝘯𝘯𝘰𝘤𝘦𝘯𝘵 𝘶𝘯𝘵𝘪𝘭 𝘱𝘳𝘰𝘷𝘦𝘯 𝘨𝘶𝘪𝘭𝘵𝘺, 𝘣𝘶𝘵 𝘰𝘯 𝘋𝘶𝘵𝘦𝘳𝘵𝘦'𝘴 𝘵𝘪𝘮𝘦, 𝘪𝘵 𝘪𝘴 𝘨𝘶𝘪𝘭𝘵𝘺 𝘶𝘯𝘵𝘪𝘭 𝘱𝘳𝘰𝘷𝘦𝘯 𝘪𝘯𝘯𝘰𝘤𝘦𝘯𝘵," na tumutukoy sa pagkakait ng due process para sa mga biktima.

Samantala, tumayo bilang oposisyon ang House of Citrine at iginiit na ang pakikialam ng ICC ay paglabag sa soberanya at hurisdiksyon ng Pilipinas. Giit nila, may kakayahan ang sariling legal na sistema ng bansa upang tugunan ang mga isyung ito, kaya’t hindi na kinakailangan ang interbensyon ng dayuhang organisasyon.

Ipinamalas ng parehong houses ang kanilang husay sa pangangatwiran, masusing pananaliksik, at malalim na pagkaunawa sa usaping panlipunan. Nagsilbing patunay ang kanilang tagisan ng kritikal na pag-iisip at pagiging socially aware ng mga kalahok.

Sa huli, itinanghal na panalo ang House of Amethyst, na kinabibilangan nina Margarette Eunice E. Cortez, Lalaine Alethea G. Manaig, Ma. Camille Angeli A. Salamera, at Niño Kristoffer Villanueva.

Bukod dito, ginawaran ng parangal ang mga Outstanding Speaker ng bawat houses sa nangyaring eliminasyon at huling debate dahil sa kanilang kahanga-hangang kahusayan sa pagpapahayag at pangangatwiran:

𝑹𝒊𝒔𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝑽𝒐𝒊𝒄𝒆𝒔 𝒊𝒏 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝑨𝒓𝒆𝒏𝒂 𝒐𝒇 𝑪𝒉𝒂𝒏𝒈𝒆

Justice has long been reserved for those who hold privilege, names that have echoes for decades while millions remain nameless, their voices stifled and unheard. Yet the millions outnumber the few, their voices rising in unison, bound by a shared hope for a better future. As powerful as the footsteps that crush us, the courage to fight against this oppression grows stronger. The pursuit of justice may falter in the face of greed. Yet, the determination of the many keeps the fight alive—the student debaters, who challenge these entrenched powers with their voices, calling for true justice that serves everyone.

In celebration of English Month, the Social Science Club organized a battle of intellect in the final round of the Debate Competition held on November 26, 2024. Two houses stood strong after the intense elimination rounds, each with four brave delegates: the House of Amethyst and the House of Citrine. The topic at hand, heavy with significance and controversy, ignited intense debate: “The Involvement of the ICC in the Investigation of Duterte’s War on Drugs."

Both houses set the stage ablaze with powerful opening statements; propositions and oppositions alike showcased their broad knowledge and well-researched arguments. The stage elevated from the tone of their statements and rebuttals, all striving to maintain righteousness amidst the complexity of their stands. The student debaters unveiled the insightful rationale behind each viewpoint, encouraging the audience to broaden their horizons and see the issue through different lenses. The debate served as a great exhibition of delivering, with both strength and poise, being a testament to the skill of each delegate as a speaker.

In a country where the gullible are swayed by sweet promises, too content with what little is served to them, the truth is lost in a fog of deception. "𝙈𝙖𝙢𝙖𝙩𝙖𝙮 𝙣𝙖𝙡𝙖𝙣𝙜 𝙨𝙞 𝘿𝙪𝙩𝙚𝙧𝙩𝙚, 𝙝𝙞𝙣𝙙𝙞 𝙥𝙖 𝙣𝙖𝙥𝙖𝙥𝙖𝙧𝙪𝙨𝙖𝙝𝙖𝙣," declared Ms. Margarette Eunice Cortez from the proposition side, cutting through the silence to expose a justice system and the society that fails to hold a predator accountable, even when his crimes are laid bare in public. The essence of the Debate Competition serves as a powerful reminder to wake up and witness the cruelty of those in power. And with conviction resonating in every word, it highlights the significant power of voices united for change.

The Debate Competition concluded with each closing statement reflecting contrasting views on the ICC’s involvement in investigating Duterte’s war on drugs. This symbolizes the transformative power of deeper understanding in guiding us toward the path of what is right. By amplifying the voices of the oppressed, including the delegates who had the courage to echo the words the world needs to hear, hope rises for a better future—one where the pursuit of justice is no longer in the hands of greed but with our reliable future leaders.

November 26, 2024 — The English Club has commenced the battle of Essay Writing facilitated by Ms. Alliah Logo where all sections from the senior high school department pull out their best card to represent the genius in crafting efficient linguistic articulation about the topic of “𝐋𝐚𝐧𝐠𝐮𝐚𝐠𝐞 𝐚𝐬 𝐚 𝐑𝐞𝐟𝐥𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐨𝐟 𝐒𝐨𝐜𝐢𝐚𝐥 𝐂𝐡𝐚𝐧𝐠𝐞 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐂𝐨𝐧𝐧𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧”.

In this on-the-spot competition, the essay competitors are seated in a round table consisting of two representatives, as they are mesmerized in the work of inscribing their literary paragraphs into yellow pads encapsulating their arguments of justifying the essence of the English language as a way of communication in our lives. Through the bravado of critical thinking and adept intellectual implications, the essay competitors must cultivate a broad way of knowledge in a sense that is deep, compromising, and yet relevant to the topic provided by the English club. Certificate of participation has been awarded on the same day after the competition for the writing contestants.

Awarded on the day of November 27 at the UPHSD Gymnasium where the last day of the English Month celebration was held.

November 26, 2024 — Representatives from all sections in SHS give launch to their editorial talents as they scribbled artwork representations of 𝘊𝘭𝘰𝘶𝘵 𝘓𝘦𝘢𝘥𝘦𝘳𝘴𝘩𝘪𝘱 about the low standard qualification in running for a position in government. This battle of creativity and realism allows the participants to dedicate meaningful symbolisms towards one of the contributing political elements to national leadership. Armed with drawing materials and a sheet of paper, the profound skills of the participants clashed in competition to illustrate this powerful message through the form of editorial cartooning as it aimed to transcend an underlying tone of the leading issues present in our government. The Social Science club as its leading organizer facilitated this event in commemoration of the Social Science event taking place on this day up until the date of November 27.

The jurisdiction of the competition will go under the decision of the following respectable judges; Jinky A. Decena, Analyn C. Bato, Romelyn H. Legaspi. Certificates of participation were also given the same day right after the session. The participants are given the opportunity to be photographed along with their editorial outputs.

Equipped with the skills of illustrations that are timely and political, three outstanding works have been decided as the dominator of the competition. Certified within the date of November 27 at the UPHSD Gymnasium, the winners received their award presented by the Social Science club.

Ika-27 ng Nobyembre 2024 — Matagumpay na naisagawa ang Quiz Beast Competition sa SHS Library, na nilahukan ng mga kinatawan mula sa bawat seksyon ng Baitang 11 at 12.

Unang nagpakitang-gilas sa bilis at talino ang mga kalahok mula sa Baitang 11, na sinundan naman ng mga pambato mula sa Baitang 12. Pinangunahan nina Leehai Ulrick Tomenio at Precious Lacorte mula sa Literary-Arts Club ang paligsahan bilang mga punong-abala.

Nagkaroon ng kakaibang twist ang Quiz Beast Competition sa pamamagitan ng paggamit ng larong Snakes and Ladders, na nagbigay ng dagdag na aliw at hamon sa mga kalahok. Sa larong ito, ang mga kalahok ay lumaban bilang pares at sumubok sa kanilang kaalaman sa tatlong round: Easy, Moderate, at Final.

Bawat round ay nangangailangan ng talino at aktibong pakikilahok mula sa mga kalahok upang sagutin ang mga kumplikadong katanungan bago mag-roll ng dice. Maaaring umusad o bumaba sa board ang mga kalahok, na nagdulot ng tensyon sa buong kompetisyon. Ang nagtaglay ng pinakamalaking kaalaman, pati na rin ng tamang diskarte, ang itinanghal na nagwagi.

Sa araw ding iyon, binigyan ng parangal ang mga mahuhusay na kalahok na nagwagi sa kompetisyon. Dahil sa kanilang natatanging kaalaman, sila ay ginawaran ng sertipiko at mga parangal na ipinagkaloob sa bulwagan ng UPHSD habang isinasagawa ang programa para sa pagdiriwang ng English Month.

Ika-26 ng Nobyembre 2024 — Isinagawa sa bulwagan ng UPHSD ang Gabay sa Pagpili ng Propesyon ng Baitang 11. Nagsimula ang programa sa isang parada na pinangunahan ng mga kasapi ng SHS Majorettes.

Pinaghandaan ng mga mag-aaral mula sa Baitang 11 ang nasabing kaganapan, suot-suot ang mga uniporme ng propesyong nais nilang tahakin sa hinaharap.

Opisyal na binuksan ang programa sa pamamagitan ng pambungad na talumpati ni Mr. Carlos Fajardo, Grade 11 Coordinator.

Tumatak sa damdamin ng mga mag-aaral ang isa sa kanyang sinabi. Ayon sa kanya, sa wikang Ingles, “𝘖𝘶𝘳 𝘥𝘦𝘴𝘵𝘪𝘯𝘺 𝘪𝘴 𝘴𝘩𝘢𝘱𝘦𝘥 𝘣𝘺 𝘰𝘶𝘳 𝘥𝘦𝘤𝘪𝘴𝘪𝘰𝘯.” Matapos niyang magbigay ng makahulugang payo, pinainit nama ni Kristine Ann Gonzales, miyembro ng Peer Facilitator, ang bulwagan sa pagbibigay ng isang pampasiglang awitin.

Nagpatuloy ang programa sa Talk Show with the Alumni, kung saan nagbahagi ang ilan sa mga alumni ng kanilang karanasan sa pagpili ng propesyon. Matapos nito, nagkaroon ng "fashion show" ang mga mag-aaral mula sa bawat seksyon, kung saan ipinamalas nila ang kani-kanilang uniporme at galing sa pagrampa. Sinundan ito ng pag-anunsyo ng mga nanalo sa pagrampa at mga pinalad na mag-aaral na nabunot sa raffle draw.

Grade 12 students gathered to embody their future profession through their attire at the career fair themed “𝘊𝘢𝘳𝘦𝘦𝘳 𝘘𝘶𝘦𝘴𝘵: 𝘉𝘳𝘪𝘥𝘨𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘗𝘢𝘴𝘴𝘪𝘰𝘯 𝘵𝘰 𝘗𝘳𝘰𝘧𝘦𝘴𝘴𝘪𝘰𝘯” held at the UPHSD Gymnasium—November 20, 2024.

The fair commenced as the students assembled to parade around the campus including SHS Majorettes headed by Marithe Magora with the spirited, emboldening music of “Run The World (Girls)” by Beyonce. The event continued with a ribbon-cutting ceremony to officially begin the celebration, followed by the invocation led by Peer facilitators, Arnold Toculas and Rhea Burgos.

Some students chosen by the emcee, Mr. Jaydee Querubin, were asked why they chose the career they dressed up for; allowing them to share their passions and motivations. “𝘐 𝘸𝘢𝘯𝘵 𝘵𝘰 𝘴𝘦𝘳𝘷𝘦 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘤𝘰𝘶𝘯𝘵𝘳𝘺 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘱𝘳𝘰𝘵𝘦𝘤𝘵 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘱𝘦𝘰𝘱𝘭𝘦 𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘣𝘦𝘭𝘰𝘯𝘨 𝘵𝘰 𝘰𝘶𝘳 𝘯𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯,” as stated by Prince Groyon from Virgin Most Renowned—an aim and dream that drove him to decide to be a soldier as his future profession emphasizing the importance of the career fair and correlates to what Dr. Analee San Diego stated in her opening remarks, “𝙄𝙩 𝙞𝙨 𝙣𝙤𝙩 𝙟𝙪𝙨𝙩 𝙖𝙣 𝙚𝙫𝙚𝙣𝙩, 𝙗𝙪𝙩 𝙖 𝙜𝙖𝙩𝙚𝙬𝙖𝙮 𝙩𝙤 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙛𝙪𝙩𝙪𝙧𝙚.”

November 20, 2024 – Senior High School houses engaged in an intense battle of wits during the elimination round of the Social Science Debate, showcasing their profound understanding of one of the country's pressing issues—political dynasties. Each house—Citrine, Sapphire, Emerald, Garnet, and Amethyst—brought their best representatives, forming teams of four to present and defend their arguments in this highly anticipated competition.

The elimination went under the judgment of the respectable panelists; Ms. Luzeil Ebete, Ms. Marivil Rocamora, and Mr. Laurence Nachor. Each house was given the allotted time of 30 minutes to complete their presented dispute in regards to one of the most dominating problems in our country, the political dynasty.

This climactic face-off promises to be a battle of unparalleled intellect and passion, with each side vying to claim the championship title. The elimination round produced two prominent teams who will advance to the finals on November 26, 2024.

【ＰＨＩＬＩＰＰＩＮＥＳ　ＡＮＤ　ＴＹＰＨＯＯＮＳ】

Our world suffers from various disasters every single day. From earthquakes to floods and droughts to typhoons – these disasters have profound effects on people's lives. Although we cannot stop them, we surely have ways to prevent and fight them. The past few weeks have been a tough ones for the Philippines. A series of typhoons left some of our provinces in ruins and people in complete devastation. In times like these, here are the things that we can do.

Before a typhoon arrives, make sure to prepare the essentials, like emergency lights, candles, extra clothes, canned goods, first aid kits, clean water, and sanitation products. Store them in an airtight container and secure them in an easy-to-access spot in your house. Remember to also check your roofs and walls for holes or possible danger if the strong wind arrives.

During a typhoon, lock the doors and windows, but do not forget to be vigilant of your surroundings. If you have pets, bring them inside. Pets are more sensitive to sounds and stress during this season.

After the typhoon, do not forget to wear boots when walking outside to shield your body from bacteria caused by flashfloods. Make sure also to stay updated on the current status of the typhoon. Be vigilant still.

Numerous organizations worldwide exist solely to assist those in need, especially at times like this. Typhoons can devastate anyone they come in contact with, but that does not mean they can destroy our spirits. Typhoons can break us apart, but they can also bring us even closer together.

How easy it is to wish for the chaos of a storm to free us from the mundane burdens of school, to long for a momentary escape from the routine. In our sheltered comfort, we can dream of cancelled classes, but we must ask ourselves: 𝘞𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘪𝘧 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘷𝘦𝘳𝘺 𝘸𝘪𝘯𝘥𝘴 𝘸𝘦 𝘩𝘰𝘱𝘦 𝘧𝘰𝘳 𝘵𝘦𝘢𝘳 𝘭𝘪𝘷𝘦𝘴 𝘢𝘱𝘢𝘳𝘵 𝘪𝘯𝘴𝘵𝘦𝘢𝘥 𝘰𝘧 𝘰𝘧𝘧𝘦𝘳𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘶𝘴 𝘢 𝘳𝘦𝘱𝘳𝘪𝘦𝘷𝘦? For some, the storm is not a moment of relief—it is a devastation. Homes crumble, livelihoods drown, and families are displaced by the very forces we casually wish upon.

The truth is, the storm does not discriminate, but our privilege often blinds us to its true weight. While some of us are safe in our homes, hoping for a brief respite, others are facing destruction beyond imagination. A typhoon is not just a missed day of school for many—it is the loss of everything they hold dear. Before we indulge in our comfort, we must recognize that the lives affected by the storm are more important than the fleeting relief we seek. To wish for a day off without acknowledging the suffering of others is not only callous, but a clear reflection of how disconnected we have become from the reality outside our windows.

The true measure of our privilege is not how easily we wish for convenience, but how deeply we are willing to care for those who suffer in the storms we take for granted. Let us tread carefully, for the winds we wish for may be the same that tear lives apart.

Pormal nang nagsimula ang Cluster Meet 6 nitong Oktubre 22, 2024 sa Integrated School of Lawa, Calamba, kung saan ipinamalas ng mga atletang Perpetualites ang kanilang kahusayan sa iba’t ibang larangan ng pampalakasan.

Ang nasabing patimpalak ay dinaluhan ng labindalawang paaralan mula sa mga barangay ng Lawa, Barandal, Mayapa, Paciano, Bubuyan, at Majada Out, na nagbigay-init sa matinding kumpetisyon sa mga larangan ng volleyball, basketball, table tennis, at badminton.

Bagamat sinuspinde at ipinagpaliban ng Division Office ng Calamba ang kompetisyon noong Oktubre 23-24, 2024, dahil sa bagyong Kristine, muling itinakda ang mga palaro sa ganap na Nobyembre 4-5, 2024.

Masaya namang naiuwi ng Men’s 5v5 Basketball Team ang kampyonato sa pangunguna nina Coach Merwin Katigbak at Coach Alex Canubas. Bagamat walang pwesto ang Men’s 3v3 team, ipinakita pa rin nila ang kanilang pusong atleta sa pakikipaglaban.

Ang tagumpay ng mga Perpetualites sa Cluster Meet 6 ay patunay ng kanilang determinasyon at dedikasyon sa larangan ng sports. Ang bawat medalya ay hindi lamang simbolo ng kanilang talento kundi pati ng sakripisyo sa bawat ensayo para sa karangalan ng ng paaralan — University of Perpetual Help System Dalta.
