Community gardens in the South Bronx faced heat waves and torrential rains, leading gardeners to adapt by limiting visitation and considering drought-resistant crops. Community gardens, crucial to food security in the South Bronx, experienced slower plant growth and increased insect problems due to the effects of the weather. Measures such as rainwater harvesting systems and planting pollinator-friendly crops are helping the gardens to resist.

GRAPHIC DESCRIPTION: “The Bronx has a total of 24 acres of urban gardens, consisting of 73 NYC Parks gardens and 45 registered non-NYC Parks gardens.”
