I return from the dead to gift you this deep dive into judging turns in artistic gymnastics 👀 featuring all the turns on floor from the top 3 teams at the European Championships 2025 (Italy, Germany, France)

DISCLAIMER:
This is my opinion based on video review, which can sometimes differ from judging live due to many factors, especially in borderline cases. The video is for educational purposes and not intended to disrespect the gymnasts. Please keep discussions kind and respectful :)

Turns are reallyyyy tricky to judge live — particularly the D, as there are many things to look out for and they have to be completely EXACTLY (100%) to receive credit. You need to look at the whole body as hips and shoulder orientation determine turn completion, but also the turn is considered finished when the heel drops, or the free leg steps down, or you 'jump' to get the turn around. Hence, you need a really sharp eye. Tbh, I wish they would allow D judges to do video replay in borderline cases cuz these dance elements are a headache :x

I would like to do future deep dives on skill types so let me know what you would like to see! They just might take some time now that I work a full time job + other side things, eg. I have been busy helping to design the national levels program in Singapore :) This video took 2 months to complete while working on and off on it oop 😅💀
