Today, on the Winter Solstice, we pause to acknowledge the power and sacredness of our natural world.

We acknowledge the Sun — a deity and life-giving force sacred to land-based people across the world. We acknowledge the Moon, an Ancestor who guides us, teaches us, and brings light in the darkness.

And on the Winter Solstice, marked by the shortest day and longest night of the year, we slow down to rest, reflect, and regenerate our spirits.

Acknowledging the Winter Solstice is a decolonial act, and there is no man-made holiday that has given life to our people and Ancestors more than connecting to the power of our natural world.

The Winter Solstice is the reason for the season. Not capitalism. Not commercialism. Not colonial religions.

Today and every day, remember our Earth and our non-human relations. Remember those who are suffering injustice in different corners of the world. And remember the generations that have come before and those who will come after us.

With warmth and solidarity,
