I hope you are having a Grateful Memorial Day as we remember the men and women who sacrificed everything in the fight for Freedom. As we honor them today, I want to share a poignant excerpt from "Voices That Will Not Be Silenced," because many times our men and women in uniform who make it home are faced with another huge, unanticipated battle on the home front for their own families. It has only been in the last few years that I learned of this, and I don't think most Americans are aware even now.
From the book:
"As a military family, the Halls believed in 'truth, justice, and the American way.' They believed the part of the Pledge of Allegiance which says, 'with liberty and justice for all.' Jeff had been willing to lay down his life for his country because of the ideals of the United States Constitution. He was injured in battle and received a purple heart for his sacrifice. Not in their wildest dreams did they ever fathom that justice would be such a difficult battle on the home front.
"With their fight for Brooklyn against the powerful family/juvenile court system, they joined the ranks of countless veterans and service members who found that the biggest battle for justice happened, not overseas, but right here at home, in the courts, for their families. That is where they encounter things in the courtroom which stand in direct opposition to everything they once took an oath to defend. Disillusioned, the Halls determined to continue to stand for what they know is right."
