Ofsted has moved its safeguarding data which includes allegations of abuse made by children and others against foster carers from the main page of their fostering reports, which the monitoring body produces for the government, amid a sharp rise in complaints by children. The safeguarding data has since been moved to an annex, which is not immediately accessible, and placed in a file type called Open Document Format (ODF) which are notoriously difficult to open....

An online conference hosted by Moses Farrow this weekend and open to the public, is inviting all those affected by or interested in care experiences, to take part in a conversation about how to protect fostered and adopted children from being maltreated and killed by their carers. While the number of children affected by this kind of violence remains unclear, largely due to a lack of research in this area, cases where children have been abused and killed by their adoptive parents and foster carers are increasingly reported on my media outlets around the world....

Two child protection cases in England and one in the US have been published recently and are important because of the concerns they raise about the way child protection cases are dealt with by both family court systems. This case involving Nottinghamshire County Council is in part about a social worker acting as a foster carer and Special Guardian found guilty of badly injuring a child in his care or at the very least failing to protect them knowing they were at risk, being considered for unsupervised contact....

The Local Government and Social Care Ombudsman has published the latest round of complaints sent in by parents and carers to the body, and whether or not they upheld those complaints. This week’s published complaints feature growing concerns about unwarranted child welfare investigations and serious allegations of false information shared with bodies such as hospitals, by councils.
