Did you know today is the anniversary of the American with Disabilities Act being enacted?

I created a comprehensive video explaining the ADA a few years ago, and since then have gotten several requests to make the artwork available for purchase. Well, I figured today was the perfect day to do that! I’ve even made a few tweaks to update the poster and make it a little more aesthetic.

It is now available for order on Etsy in various sizes. I hope you enjoy!

Social media has become, or I guess always has been, a weird space. It’s a place that has made us all really good at one-sided conversations. A place to air all our grievances, frustrations, our highest highs and lowest lows. And if anyone dares to disagree or question, we can block them, unfriend them, or even report them. That’s not how I want to live my life.
It doesn’t feel right to have thousands of people who know some of my deepest thoughts, and yet I probably don’t even know their first name. Daniellability has never been about numbers for me - it didn’t matter if I had 20 followers or 20 million - I just wanted to be able to provide a perspective on the possibilities for people who live with disabilities and to help educate those who don’t. And I feel that I accomplished that. But I also feel that focusing so much on my disability actually made it harder for me to not focus on it. To not have it be the primary thing that defines me. And at the end of the day, I just want to live my life. I’m content with the life I’ve been given and am doing my very best every day to live it as fully and joyfully as I am able.
I don’t want followers, I want friends that come along side. I don’t want comments, I want in-person conversations. I don’t want algorithms and analytics, I want authenticity and altruism.
So to that end, I will not be posting on this page for the foreseeable future. Some of you have reached out asking about new content and even asking if I’m ok, so I felt I should give an explanation. I have thought about this for awhile now, and no longer feel right about producing something that is so self-focused. I won’t be deleting anything- I’m still very proud of the energy, effort, and creativity I put into Daniellability, and I’m thankful for all of you. So you will still be able to access my content on here and on YouTube as a resource, and please still feel free to dm me if you have questions or need advice. I wish you all nothing but the very best.
Thank you for your support. 🩷 Danielle

I first shared Switchfoot’s music with my dad on a road trip we took together, shortly after the Beautiful Letdown came out. He was immediately hooked, like I had been with Learning to Breath. 20 years later, we’re still enjoying their music together. There’s no one else I’d rather see this show with!

I’ve been super busy the last few weeks, but in the best way possible - building friendships! I met an amazing group of people recently, and I’m so thankful. The last year living in a new place with all of my good friends still back in Ohio has been really tough. If you’re anything like me, making new friends is a loonnnggg and intimidating process. I’ve had to reminder myself over and over to be bold, and patient… and it’s finally paying off! But I couldn’t let today pass by without posting to wish you all a Happy Spina Bifida Awareness month! 💛 For those of you who have SB, I hope it’s a reminder of how unique and beautiful you are. For those of you who don’t, I hope it’s an opportunity to learn something new.

Loving this classic look! Jeans are from , black tank top and necklace from , jacket from , shoes from (and all things I already had in my closet, as I try to do with all of these posts). Super affordable and easy to put together.

I just got my first issue of Modern Vintage News and I’m obsessed. It’s a newspaper (yes, an actual physical newspaper) for women that was just launched, and it’s incredible!
Introspective, artistic, tough, interesting, magical, and downright cool. Can’t recommend it enough to all you gals. Getting off social media now to go do some reading over my lunch break. 🗞️ www.modernvintagenews.com

Celebrating 2 years with my Lucy girl! The day I went to the pet rescue, she was the first kitty I held. She immediately settled into my arms and didn’t want me to put her down. I held lots of other kitties that day (it seemed so silly to take home the first one I held), but I kept coming back to her. Don’t tell her I said so, but up until that point I had always been more of a dog person. Boy did she change my mind! Since that moment she’s been there through all of life’s ups and downs, and I’m so thankful for my little buddy. She’s been a constant when life has felt lonely or chaotic, making me laugh at her goofy antics and giving the best snuggles. She somehow knew from the start that she could get the best cat naps in the sling under my chair, and that my wheelchair is her own personal jungle gym.
It’s rare for her to be far from my side or at least in the same room, she greets me happily at the door whenever I come home, and runs to me when I call her…most days. She’s still a cat who does what she wants, when she wants to. 😸

It’s been a crazy few days😰
Got home Friday from evacuating, Lucy had an eye infection that took a turn for the worst over the weekend (she’ll be ok, thank goodness), I had to get an X-ray of my foot, we’re short-staffed at work, and I desperately need to clean my house. Things could certainly be a whole lot worse, but ya know how some weeks just feel years long? Especially as a single person, the trials of life can feel super daunting because you’re having to work through it all on your own. Here’s your reminder to just take things a day at a time, to ask for help when you need it, and to find community that will support and encourage you. You got this.

Happy Sunday! I got back home on Friday afternoon from evacuating. So thankful to report that I had no damage to my house, and there was minimal damage in the area. Much better than last year 😅 I hope you all are having a wonderful long weekend!

Most people don’t think of wheelchair users or plus size women when they think of activewear. So that’s why today’s outfit inspo is so important.
To be perfectly honest, I usually wear a tank top over this outfit when I work out because I don’t love the way it looks on me…I get self conscious about my curves, lumps, and bumps. And I’ll admit that I worked for awhile on the pose to make sure it was the most flattering it could be.
I think a lot of us deal with that - seeing ourselves differently than others do, and being more gracious to others than we are to ourselves. And things like Pinterest and ad campaigns aren’t very good at dispelling those thoughts.
But I should be nothing but grateful to my body because every scar, every bump, every imperfection, is a reminder that it’s survived a lot and is strong. So here’s to the bodies that are less than perfect…but actually ARE perfect because they are real.

I didn’t go to playgrounds a whole lot growing up because I grew up in the country and there weren’t any very close by, and plus they’re not very accessible for a wheelchair user. So my dad built a sandbox for my siblings and I in our backyard! And the coolest thing about it is that he included us in the process - going to the hardware store to get the lumber, building the frame, going in the old Ford truck to get the sand…I loved every minute of it! And when it was all done, we had hours and hours of fun building fortresses and castles and getting oh-so-dirty.

Requested by . This one was a little harder to pull off because I don’t own a belt and the colors are a little bit different, but I hope it gives you some inspo anyway! I ordered the shorts from Amazon (and in all honesty will be returning them because I don’t love the way they fit). The shirt and necklace were already in my closet 😀

It’s getting better! I’ve been having a doctor appointment every Friday for the last few weeks to check the progress of the pressure sore on my foot. There’s been progress every week, which is really promising. My doctor is incredibly kind and encouraging, and I’m so thankful for his expertise and care. Still a ways to go, but it’s getting there.

There’s a funny story associated with this picture. There was a pony ride at our local fair, and I was OBSESSED with it. I wanted to ride it every year. It was basically a merry-go-round but with real ponies.
Well, one year I begged my parents as usual to ride a pony and they agreed. I had so much fun, pretending the entire time that I was a cowgirl riding on a trail.
When the ride was over, the man who ran it was going around helping kids off the horses, and he got to me before my parents did. Can you see where this is going? Thinking I was just like every other kid, he lifted me off, and set me on my feet…which, of course, immediately buckled under me. He looked down in horror as I sat smiling up at him from the ground. It was just a moment before my parents reached me, scooped me up into my wheelchair and he saw what his mistake had been. It’s something my parents and I still laugh about to this day.
It’s interesting because I remember the moment vividly, and I don’t remember feeling at all embarrassed, angry, or deterred from wanting to ride again the next year. I just thought it was funny. It makes me wonder at what age we develop feelings of embarrassment for “being different”.
