President Trump walked through the ruins of Pacific Palisades on Friday, shaking hands with firefighters and speaking to a handful of residents as he took in the devastation brought by firestorms that swept through L.A. County this month.
In the documentary “Marlee Matlin: Not Alone Anymore,” which premiered at the 2025 Sundance Film Festival, actress Marlee Matlin reveals that she was upset that she didn’t get a chance to speak onstage after her film “CODA” won the Oscar for best picture in 2022.
In an interview with The Times’ Matt Brennan in the L.A. Times Studios @ Sundance presented by Chase Sapphire Reserve, Matlin told us what she would’ve said.
In “Marlee Matlin: Not Alone Anymore,” the Oscar-winning actor reflects on her life and explores the complexities of what it means to be a trailblazer, a journey that began in 1987, when she became the first Deaf actor to win an Academy Award and was thrust into the spotlight at 21 years old.

Saoirse Ronan answers Very Important Questions
Beware the farts. Saoirse Ronan, who stars in both “The Outrun” and “Blitz” this year, sat down with The Times’ to answer some Very Important Questions about…well, gas (specifically men’s), for starters.
in “The Outrun,” Ronan plays an alcoholic who travels to the remote Scottish islands of Orkney during her recovery. She cycles through difficult emotions — grief, rage, humiliation, joy, wonderment — often appearing in scenes alone and unfurling the story with her face and eyes as much as with the voiceover narration. “It’s an undeniable, soul-shaking performance,” writes Emily Zemler for The Times.
In “Blitz,” set in London during Nazi Germany’s cataclysmic bombing of the city, Saoirse Ronan plays Rita, a munitions factory worker who sends her son George (Elliott Heffernan), a 9-year-old boy to safety in the English countryside. George, defiant and determined to return home to his mom and his grandfather in East London, embarks on an adventure, only to find himself in immense peril, while a distraught Rita searches for her missing son.
