For 40 years, the Mona Shores High School choir has been dazzling crowds as America’s Tallest Singing Christmas Tree. They perform shoulder-to-shoulder in a 67-foot high steel tree, spanning 15 tiers with some 25,000 LED lights. Built in 1869, the Nelson House is one of the oldest homes still standing in Muskegon. The historic building was facing demolition before being purchased by the city of Muskegon and moved from Jefferson St. to the Houston Historic District in July.
The city had posted the house for sale in September and bid proposals were closed November 21 with a full restoration planned. A recommendation to city commissioners is expected by the December 10 meeting.

Two Muskegon firefighters donned cold water rescue suits Tuesday to help a deer stuck in a swimming pool. The rescue took about 15 minutes. The Muskegon fire chief says after it was lifted out of the pool, the deer ran a short distance, laid down to rest and then took off. (Video provided by Austin Hruskach)

After years of unreliable service, a new airline is signed on to start flying passengers between Muskegon and Chicago. Starting Nov. 1, Denver Air will offer 24 weekly flights between Muskegon and Chicago O’Hare International Airport. The airline connects to Delta Airlines, American and United.

Muskegon’s own ‘Rosie the Riveter’ returns to plant she worked at during World War II. Carol Anderson, a 99-year-old woman who once worked for a busy Muskegon-based military supplier during World War II, got a glimpse of her own past. RENK, which produces military vehicle parts at 76 S. Getty St., hosted a special event on Tuesday, Aug. 20, to celebrate the life and contributions of 99-year-old Carol Anderson, who worked at the factory 80 years ago. During the celebration, Anderson was given the opportunity to tour the still productive factory, which was called Continental Motors when she worked there.
