It's Mental Health Awareness Week, and The Lions Barber Collective is raising awareness for this week's theme of loneliness.

The Lions Barbers Collective has been training hair professionals to ‘recognise, ask, listen’ and help those in their chairs.

Leanne Spriggle Hughes is an educator at Abingdon and Witney College that has been involved with the Collective since October 2019.

She told us about the organisation and the importance of teaching people to assist those with mental health issues.

This Bank Holiday, Oxford residents will be gathering on the corner of Howard Street and Silver Road to protest the city's rollout of low traffic neighbourhoods.

It comes as LTNs have now been implemented across the city, including Temple Cowley, Church Cowley, and Florence Park.

Oxfordshire County Council has been contacted for comment.

It comes as the England Women's rugby team has seen great success in the growing Women's Six Nations competition, where they take on France this Saturday against France as the Grand Slam decider.

A Witney carer has spoken about the struggles she's experiencing with rising costs for food, fuel, and energy.

Shirley Crammond cares for her 24-year-old son Andrew who has autism, while also holding a part-time job, and says the cost of living crisis directly impacts the care she gives to Andrew.

A government spokesperson said: they recognise the valuable role of unpaid carers and remain committed to helping them financially, along with their health, wellbeing and employment chances."

A female-only running group has launched in Wallingford to make sure women aren't running alone in the town.

Nina Sarpong, who runs the Runwize Sports in St Mary's Street, was prompted to create the group over the murder of 23-year-old Irish teacher Ashling Murphy, who was attacked and killed while jogging along the Grand Canal outside Tullamore.

The runs are every Tuesday, starting from Nina's shop, and hope to provide a sense of community for beginner and experienced runners...

An Oxford sculptor is hosting a charity art sale, with 100% of the proceeds, minus casting costs, going towards the Ukraine appeal by the Disasters Emergency Committee (DEC).

The appeal hopes to provide essential hygiene supplies, blankets, and emergency fuel for families displaced by the conflict.

Paul Masters and his friends from Oxfordshire have challenged themselves to run 4040km this year as a tribute to his baby twin boys, James and Ryan, by raising money for SSNAP’s 40th Anniversary Appeal.

SSNAP supports sick newborn and their parents, with Paul Masters and his team - Running for the Boys - already raising £23,000 for the charity.

Southampton charity Communicare in Southampton has joined other Good Neighbour Networks in calling for an increase in mileage rate.

The charity offers vulnerable people transport to essential medical appointments, social activities, and vaccine appointments. It hopes an increase in the mileage allowance payment will help retain its volunteer drivers, with a petition to Government reaching almost 3,000 signatures.

That's TV has reached out to the HMRC, HM Treasury, and the Department for Health and Social Care for comment.

Sholing Valleys Study Centre is launching a project to restore biodiversity one of Southampton's largest nature reserves.

Miller's Pond covers 20 acres of land, with the Study Centre working to preserve the site, as well as educate the public about biodiversity and the environment in Sholing.

A video from Iffley Village residents about a rare white badger has reached over 62,000 views in an effort to save it's home from housing plans.

The Friends of the Fields, Iffley, have objected to Oxford City Council’s plans for a 30-home estate over Iffley's ancient fields.

The five minute film entitled Luna's Story received widespread attention, most notably from conservationist Chris Packham.

Six education trade unions have called on the Government to take immediate action in lessening disruption during this year's exam period.

Unions including GMB, NEU, and Unison, have asked for help mitigating Covid-19 transmission in all educational establishments through better ventilation and providing improved financial support.

The Isle of Wight's Peter Shreeve, Assistant District Secretary of the National Education Union, commented on why action is so desperately needed.

Education Secretary Nadhim Zahawi said face coverings would be required until January 26..

He said the painful lesson learnt was that when children weren't in school, the impact on their mental health and their education, was quite substantial.

He added that both he and the prime minister were determined to make sure education remains open and children are in the best place when they're in the classroom.
