Between the Lakes Group has been in business since 1999, and some of our offerings, particularly downloads you'll find at www.betweenthelakes.com, date from CD-ROMs of historical material we have sold for a couple of decades now. Unlike everyone else, we've never previously increased prices on what we sell. In those intervening years a lot has happened, some of which have increased our costs in ways that aren't visible to our customers....

Well, somehow we neglected to post our publication of this one on Instagram. (Easiest found on Amazon, if you’re disposed to buy a copy). The book was a bit of an experiment: using a parish church as a theme to connect the history of a locality. Sure, it’s got all the expected parish history in it, but there’s a whole lot of local history, history of the vanished iron industry of the upper Housatonic valley, of the Barnum and Richardson families, Lime Rock Park, and on and on. The full title is “Trinity Lime Rock in Context: a History” and probably the most important words in the title are “in context”.

We're happy that this book is now out, and more than a little bit proud as well.

Yes, it's the parish history of a small Episcopal church in Northwest Connecticut, but it is more than that.

The key words in the title are "In Context" -- which includes such diverse subjects as the historic iron industry of Northwest Connecticut (and elsewhere), railroad history, political history of the post-Civil War period, Lime Rock Park, assimilation of immigrants -- and that in addition to the history of a small parish church in Northwestern Connecticut that is almost 150 years old.

Why include so many subjects in a parish history? Because churches don't exist in a vacuum -- or at least this parish has not! !

You can find it on Amazon!

We are happy to announce a new book by Geoffrey Brown, called Trinity Lime Rock in Context - a History. Here's some background: Nearly 30 years ago we started going to a local Episcopal church, here in Northwestern Connecticut, called Trinity Lime Rock. Lots of people don't have much to do with churches anymore. However, we had kept up churchgoing, and when we moved up here we continued....

Our second most favorite robber baron, Collis P. Huntington!

(Our favorite is Sen. William H. Barnum, with whom Huntington had extensive business collaborations -- after all, Huntington had railroads and Barnum made railroad car wheels, so it was a great fit. The also were both Northwest Corner boys who made good on their own initiative and ingenuity.)

Collis Potter Huntington was born today in 1822, the sixth of nine children born to William and Elizabeth Huntington of Harwinton, Connecticut. The Huntington family, owners of a farm in a s…

Here's some interesting material about the early movie business -- in Upstate New York! Furthermore, it's not "just" the story of D. W. Griffith -- there's a coda on this one that involved little Neversink, NY, in 1909 and "patent detectives".

People sitting on the front porch of a Barryville home learned firsthand what movie makers in the region discovered more than 100 years ago.
