‘When we first spoke about visiting Jan Mayen, it's safe to say, we didn't know what we were getting ourselves into. We didn't realize we'd be at sea for almost ten days. Facing unpredictable waters, and arriving at an Island with barely any inhabitants, infrastructure, or facilities available to visitors. We didn't realize we had to climb every single one of Beerenberg's 2277 meters to reach its notorious summit. Thanks to the mountain sloping all the way down to the sea's edge. We didn't realize the weather was so volatile that climbers often wait for days, even weeks, for manageable conditions to roll around. But we didn't have days or weeks.’ Words by
