Ventura Land Trust is hiring a Field Technician! Join our team of passionate and committed conservationists and help work to manage VLT properties. This is a full time position funded through the end of 2025. The Field Technician is a field-based position, providing skilled labor to support VLTs conservation and stewardship programs through tasks such as invasive plant management, ecological restoration, natural resources mapping, biological monitoring, and community liaisonship. This position will report to the Conservation Director, Laura, and will work both independently and within a small team of experienced technicians.

Welcome our newest Commanding Officer, Capt. "DB" Brown.

The South Milwaukee native took command of following an assignment as the N8 Asst. Chief of Staff at U.S. 3rd Fleet. He earned his commission in 2000 via Officer Candidate School and was designated a Naval Aviator in 2002. He holds a Master of Business in National Security and Strategic Studies from the Naval War College. Brown is an MH-60R helicopter pilot who has accumulated over 3200 flight hours.

Born in 1834, Petra Pico was a beacon of strength and tradition within the Ventureño Chumash Community. 🌾 From her birth at Mission San Buenaventura to her final days in 1902, her life was a tapestry of resilience and artistry.

Married three times, Petra found companionship and love amidst life's trials, ultimately settling in downtown Ventura with Simplicio Pico, where she nurtured her family and craft.

Petra's mastery of basket weaving earned her renown across the Santa Barbara Channel region. Her innovative techniques and dedication to her craft set her apart, with her baskets becoming treasured possessions sought after by collectors far and wide.

Today, Petra's legacy lives on through her art, showcased in museums across the nation. 🏛️ Her final masterpiece, "Queen Isabella's Crown," remains a testament to her skill and vision, immortalized in the halls of the Smithsonian National Museum of Natural History. 🌿

This year's Ventura County Fair Youth Poster Contest theme is "Fair-ever Young!" The poster that best depicts this year's theme will be publicized and used to advertise the 2024 Ventura County Fair in a variety of ways - from posters and merchandise to social media and print.

▪️ Open to grades K-12
▪️ 1st, 2nd, 3rd place ribbons for each grade level
▪️ School with the most participation award up for grabs!

Before youth start creating their poster, please be sure to read the contest guidelines, as they are strictly enforced. (Example: no lettering allowed.)
