Doctors Amputate Mr Ibu’s Leg To Keep Him Alive

A new statement from the family of actor John Okafor, aka Mr Ibu, disclosed that one of his legs has been amputated to keep him alive.

News surfaced in October that the veteran actor was ill and required financial assistance to aid in his treatment.

In the statement shared on the actor’s Instagram page Monday, it was revealed the actor had undergone seven successful surgeries, including the amputation of one leg, in a bid to keep him alive.

Nigerian Man Hangs Self Over ‘Rising Cost Of Living’ In Adamawa

A Nigerian man, Mohammed Umar, who reportedly could no longer fend for his family owing to the prevailing hash economy, has taken his life in Adamawa State.

Umar's body was found dangling in a solitary place around Rumde-Baru neighbourhood of Yola, the state capital on Saturday.

A resident of the area, who simply identified himself as Ali, told newsmen that the deceased, who was married with children, might have resorted to su***de due to the harsh economic situation in the country.

Umar, a devout Muslim, was sighted at the mosque during the early morning prayer on Saturday before his lifeless body was later found, according to Ali.

Ali said, "A very social person suddenly became reserved, about two weeks after the fuel subsidy was removed.

Another resident of the area, Mallam Usman Dan Bature, described the deceased as a kind person, saying, "He was a responsible householder who took proper care of his family.

"Until his demise, he was the manager of A.H.A Block Industry situated along Army Barracks Road, Jimeta."

The wife of the deceased, Khadijah Umar, explained that they have been living peacefully and had no idea why her husband took his life.

The spokesperson for the police in the state, SP Suleiman Nguroje who confirmed the incident in a statement, said, "Investigation has commenced to unravel the circumstances behind the crime.”

BREAKING: Tinubu confirms Adewale Adeniyi as customs CG

President Bola Tinubu, on Friday, confirmed the appointment of Adewale Adeniyi as the comptroller-general of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS).

According to a statement from Willie Bassey, director of information, secretary to the government of the federation, Adeniyi’s appointment took effect from October 19, 2023.

Tinubu tasked Adeniyi to bring his wealth of experience to bear on his new assignment, as he begins his tenure, which is in accordance with the extant provisions of the Public Service Rules (PSR).

Adeniyi was previously in an acting capacity after taking over from Hameed Ali in June.

Yoruba Nation Agitator, Sunday Igboho, Regains Freedom From Benin Republic

Yoruba nation agitator, Sunday Adeyemo, better known as Sunday Igboho, has regained his freedom from the Beninese authorities.

Lawyer to the embattled agitator, Yomi Aliyu confirmed this to TVC News in a phone interview.

According to him, Mr Igboho was released on Malami’s order.

The Yoruba agitator had fled from Nigeria in July 2021 following a nocturnal invasion of his Ibadan residence by the operatives of the Department of State Services.

The DSS claimed they discovered AK-47 rifles, pump-action guns, and 5,000 rounds of ammunition, charms, and other weapons in his house.

Ogun Police Arrest POS Fraudster

The Ogun State Police command has arrested one Segun Gabriel over an alleged fake alert in Ajuwon, Ifo local government area of the State.

Spokesperson for the command, Omolola Odutola, disclosed this in a statement she made available to newsmen in Abeokuta, the State capital on Saturday.

According to Odutola, Gabriel was arrested on Friday, October 6, 2023.

She noted that Gabriel transacted a sum of N40,000 which resulted in a fake inter-bank transfer on Friday, October 5, but the POS operator did not notice the loss until he came back on the following day to transact the sum of N35,000 which was also successful.

However, the victim did not notice the fraud the second time until after he had disappeared into thin air.

Segun Gabriel is presently in police custody giving vital information to the Police on how to arrest his accomplices.

‘Provide your evidence in 30 days’ — Soyinka challenges those disputing his academic records

Wole Soyinka, the Nobel laureate, has issued a 30-day ultimatum to those challenging his academic records to provide evidence of their allegations to the relevant investigative bodies in Nigeria.

In a statement on Friday titled “A moral call to amoral conscripts”, the Nobel laureate said if the allegations are proven to be true, he would strip himself of the honours and achievements he has garnered in his writing career.

He said peddlers of the allegations should submit any document that can prove their claims to the directorates of prosecutions, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission () and the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission ().

FG issues two-week timeline for passport processing

Bumi Tunji-Ojo, the minister of Interior, has issued a two-week timeline for the processing of the Nigerian passport.

Speaking at a press conference in Abuja on Wednesday, the minister said the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has cleared over 204,000 backlog of passport applications in the last three weeks.

He apologised to Nigerians that the clearance of the backlog had spilled into three weeks as opposed to the two weeks deadline he gave.

“On September 7, we made a promise to sort out the backlogs in two weeks but we made it in three weeks and I sincerely want to apologise to Nigerians for that,” he said.

“The Renewed Hope administration of President Bola Tinubu is one that matches its words with actions.

“The issue of passports must be a fight and not a privilege.

“Visa is a privilege but passport is a right and we are happy that today, we have been able to handle over the rights of Nigerians to them.

We want to ensure that nobody waits for more than two weeks to get their passports.

“As of October 1, we had cleared all the 204,332 backlogs and from the records produced by NIS, the number of passport already collected is 91,981. Outstanding but available is 112,351.”

The minister pleaded with Nigerians to go to the NIS offices to collect their passports, adding that they should not pay but report any officials engaged in racketeering.

“Please, do not give money to anybody. If there is any passport office where you have done your capturing and they do not give you your passports, please lodge your complaints via the following; 0802 375 3414, preferably SMS and Whatsapp. Or email [email protected].”

SUBSIDY REMOVAL: Strike Looms As Labour Rejects FG’s N25,000 Provisional Wage Increment

The organised labour has rejected President Bola Tinubu’s N25,000 Provisional wage increment for the average low-grade worker to cushion the effect of the removal of petrol subsidy.

The organized workers also rejected the government proposed six months of the Provisional wage increase and the N15 million additional Conditional Cash Transfer for vulnerable households

Recall that President Tinubu in his nationwide broadcast on the occasion of Nigeria’s 63rd Independence Anniversary had said: “Based on our talks with labour, business and other stakeholders, we are introducing a provisional wage increment to enhance the federal minimum wage without causing undue inflation. For the next six months, the average low-grade worker shall receive an additional Twenty-Five Thousand naira per month.

“Commencing this month, the social safety net is being extended through the expansion of cash transfer programs to an additional 15 million vulnerable households.”

However, Vanguard reliably gathered that the organized labour in their meeting with the Federal Government team at the Permanent Conference Room, Presidential Villa, Abuja, rejected the N25, 000 provisional wage and demanded the wage to be 100 percent of the current minimum wage.

Besides, labour insisted that the provisional wage should be for all workers and that it will not be limited to only six months but rather be running till when new minimum wage would be approved next year.

The organised labour also insisted that the Conditional Cash Transfer for the poorest and vulnerable people should be increased to N25, 000 and not the N5000 the previous administration was paying.

After many hours of horse trading, the Chief of Staff, Femi Gbajabiamila, who is leading the government delegation at the meeting has to break, to go and consult with the President on the new demands

Gbajabiamila was accompanied by the Minister of Labour and Employment, Simon Lalong.

The Chief of Staff to the President, Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila has announced that the 25000 naira earlier announced by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu during his Independence Day Speech for low-grade Federal workers as an intervention, is now for all workers at all levels.

The Additional Money is to help cushion the effect of the removal of Subsidy on Premium Motor Spirit by the Tinubu administration.

President Tinubu had earlier on Sunday during his Independence Day broadcast to the nation announced the 25000 additional take home for low level Federal Workers for a period of 6 Months until a new national Minimum wage is introduced.

The new announcement now extends the payment to all categories of Federal Workers.

Coroner Holds Inaugural Sitting, Adjourns to Oct 13

Inaugural sitting of the Coroner inquiring into the cause of death of 27-year-old musician, IleriOluwa Oladimeji Aloba, also known as Mohbad, was held yesterday at the Candide Johnson Courthouse, Ikorodu, Lagos.

However, journalists were barred from covering the proceedings, as court officials said that the order was from the Chief Registrar, Tajideed Elias.

It was also gathered that this move was taken as a crowd control measure.

After the hearing, the deceased’s family counsel, Funmi Falana, told journalists that the Magistrate, Adetayo Shotobi discussed the modalities of the inquest with all counsel, including the format that witnesses will take to testify.

She added that the legal team will present their witnesses at the next hearing fixed for October 13.

Police Arrest Sam Larry Over Mohbad's Death

Balogun Olamilekan Eletu known as Sam Larry arrived in Nigeria from Nairobi Kenya at about 10pm Nigerian time.

He was immediately picked by officers of the Nigeria Police to the command headquarters.

Arriving at the headquarters at about 10:30pm Sam Larry was taken to see the commissioner of Police where he was questioned and then handed over to DC Panti.

He is expected to help the Police with more information in their investigation.

I’m returning to Nigeria to clear myself over MohBad – Naira Marley

Popular artiste Naira Marley on Tuesday stated that he’s making plans to return to the country to help the ongoing inquiry over the death of his former signee Ilerioluwa Oladimeji Aloba aka MohBad.
He said this in an official statement by his management team via his Instagram handle.

Naira Marley acknowledged the recent accusations of cultism and drug dealing that has been associated with his record label since MohBad’s death.

The statement reads: “In the last few days, there has been a lot of onslaught on my person and reputation globally over the death of my former signee.

“All manner of stories has been woven against me in respect of his untimely death.

“I have not only been in shock over the death of the deceased whom I considered to be my brother and member of our music family, but over the various lies spread and threats against me.

“Before I progress further, let me say that as it is traumatic for a lot of people to bear the reality of lleri’s death, so it is to me. May his gentle soul continue to rest in peace and may God grant his family the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss.”

Naira Marley claimed that he had nothing to do with MohBad’s death stating, “Permit me to categorically state that I have no hand in the death of llerioluwa, either directly or indirectly. It is not unusual in the industry, just like in several other industries to have family friction, even amongst blood relatives.

“Truly, we had our own share of misunderstandings whilst working together, but the disagreement between us was never to the extent being painted by some hirelings. It never degenerated to the extent of wishing each other death. Even at that, we were resolving our business disputes legally before he had passed.

“I have chosen not to say anything since due to being distraught over his death and in order not to jeopardize the investigation being carried out by the government agencies.

“In addition, I have been out of the country since the 31st of August 2023 and I’m yet to return. In light of the police invitation, I am making arrangements to return to the country to assist the investigation and give my version of the events. I am fully cooperating with the Police team and I certainly have no reason to be a fugitive when I have no hand in his death.

“I am certain that the culprit behind his death has a vendetta against me and are fueling public opinions to have me lynched for reasons known to them. In due time the circumstances surrounding Mohbad’s death will be unveiled and the world will know the truth. This kind of scenario of attempting to set someone up is not novel in the industry as other great musicians have experienced the same and came out better and stronger. Mine will not be an exception as I am innocent of the accusations.

“Mohbad left the label in September 2022, the label accepted his departure. Marlian Music did not stop or interfere with his career or releases since and he has been with oneRPM. Legal efforts were made to reconcile his concerns regarding the work we had done together.”

He further decried allegation of drug dealing, stating “The rumors regarding the label being a drug cartel are untrue. I am not a drug lord, neither do I Marley belong to any cult or fraternity. I’m dedicated to proving my innocence and I’m cooperating with the authorities to clear my name with sufficient evidence.

“I will like to clearly state that I have never fought or attacked Mohbad. For the avoidance of doubt I have never instructed anyone, friend, known associates or fans to attack, bully or harass

Nigerian President Bola Tinubu has approved the purchase of 12 fighter helicopters for the Nigerian Army.

This was disclosed by Nigeria’s Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt.-Gen. Taoreed Lagbaja, at the opening of the Nigerian Army Aviation Seminar, on Tuesday in Abuja.

Lagbaja noted that the helicopters, which are MD 530F Cayuse attack helicopters would enable the Nigeria Army’s aviation unit to improve ground troops’ efficacy during operations.

President Bola Tinubu has condemned the attack by gunmen on Federal University Gusau (FUG) in Zamfara state.

On Friday, bandits attacked the federal university and abducted students.

Sources said the bandits split themselves into two groups — the first group went away with the abductees, while the second group engaged troops who were trying to repel the attack, in a gun duel.

On Friday, troops of the Nigeria Army (NA) rescued six female students among the abductees.

Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde has approved the appointment of Prince Afolabi Ghandi Olaoye as the new Soun-elect of Ogbomosoland.

Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters, Olusegun Olayiwola said in a statement that the announcement followed the long-drawn processes specified under the law.

“His Excellency congratulates the new Soun-elect on his ascension to the throne of his forebears,” the statement said.

The Commissioner said the exalted position has placed the monarch-elect in the position to facilitate harmony, understanding and tolerance amongst his people.

Ajuri Ngelale, the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity has said that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is not afraid to fire any minister who does not perform in his/her duties.

He said this during an interview on Monday, August 28 via Channels Television.

According to Ngelale, before he appointed his ministerial cabinet, the president had commissioned several reform committees across all sectors of the economy and so, the ministers already had set benchmarks that they must achieve within set timelines.

He stated further that these benchmarks must be met, and the president is willing to ensure he oversees the achievements recorded by his ministers against these benchmarks.
