I haven't updated the page super recently, so I know for a fact that I'm missing some bands. Do me a kindness and look over the list and see what underground AL bands I've left out. I gotta put that list in the back of GAD! 27. Thanks!!

The GAD! Zine is a homemade volunteer-driven magazine that features reviews of underground music (punk, postpunk, metal, hardcore, indie, outsider, etc) mostly from Alabama and the southeastern United States, as well as interviews with such bands. We also feature underground visual artists, writers, filmmakers, etc. Plus art, photography, poetry, short fiction, short non-fiction, editorials, and comics. Just about anything that is cool. Most reviews come from a positive perspective because we don't usually waste our time on stuff we don't like. The zine is a black&white photocopied stapled-together crass cheap disposable read. Every issue has an updated Alabama Underground Music Directory that lists hundreds of current bands in the underground AL scene. We encourage creativity. We don't do racism or sexism or homophobia.

Probably gonna stop making GAD! Zines after GAD! 27. It's been a good run for sure. A lotta friends and talent (and talented friends) have made this one of my fave projects ever and truly something that I'm super proud to have been a part of.

My life has gotten exponentially busier and more complicated in the last couple of years. I've got less time and my brain's more fried. I will probably be creating a project of some sort that will go into more detail there and why I feel this needs to happen. Probably a zine and/or an article. Maybe a video or something. It's nothing exciting and I'm not special. I'd just like to address things.

I will continue to update the Alabama Underground Music Directory website. In fact, I hope to improve in that department. After I print up the last issue of GAD!, I will also print up a bunch of back-issues. Those will make up the last run (at least for a while).
Worrying about the GAD! Zine's future has been exhausting and I look forward to the rest. Most of y'all enter the GAD! world whenever a new issue comes out, which lately, is not often. For me, GAD! has been a constant part of my life: either I'm making it happen or I'm stressing about not making it happen. It's always just there. It's relatively likely that the GAD Zine will return one day, but for now, me and that photocopy machine need a rest.

Thank you to everyone who has contributed in any way: content-wise, financially, or just by sharing ideas. And thank you to the enthusiastic readers. One of the best feelings in the world is to make a dive bar look like a punk rock library. I heart y'all.

Added a few new bands tonight. We sometimes keep bands on the list that are on hiatus because they may still be available for certain opportunities. We also keep artists listed for a while after they've passed on as a small tribute.
