Libyan carrier Buraq has inducted the second Airbus A320 into its fleet, as it continues with its restructuring plan. The aircraft is registered 5A-BAB and should be complimented by other examples in the near future.

During the past weeks, it has also come to the fore the keen interest being shown by Medsky Airways to acquire Malta MedAir. Libyan aviation expert Captain Nouman El-Ageli explained to MAviO News that such discussions have been going on and off for a very long time, mainly due to the complexity of the deal. He added that there are a number of stumbling blocks that need to be addressed Including that concerning the eventual shareholding and ownership of the company.

On 17th July 1998, photographer and museum member Saviour Schembri captured a rare image showcasing five aircraft of the Air Squadron of the Armed Forces of Malta.

- Agusta Bell 47 G2: Now exhibited at the Malta Aviation Museum.
- Nardi Hughes 500M-379HM: Awaiting transfer to the museum.
- Alouette SA.316B: A versatile utility helicopter.
- Agusta Bell 212: Possibly the one currently displayed at the museum.
- Cessna L-19E Bird Dog: A reliable observation aircraft, possibly the one in the picture is exhibited at the museum.

French construction consulting firm TERCIEL has put forward a number of proposals to build and operate water aerodromes with the aim of making tourist destinations more accessible in an eco-friendly manner. Herve Thomas, a co-founder of TERCIEL names Morotai in Indonesia, the islands of Mozambique, the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Papua New Guinea and the Bocas del Toro Archipelago in Panama as prime examples of where water aerodromes could allow tourism to flourish with the least impact on the environment. The Malta Vision 2050 puts a lot of focus on sustainable development. A document released by the Aviation Advisory Committee chaired by ex-EU Commissioner Karmenu Vella had stressed the importance of giving a new lease of life to maritime aviation. Should Malta also look at the setting up of a water aerodrome?

ch-aviation has revealed that the Dash 8-311 which arrived in Malta in mid-November 2020 for maintenance is set to be re-inducted into the fleet of Air Tanzania with flights bookable on 5H-MWF from 24th February onwards. It is worth recalling that the twin turboprop made a test flight in mid-July 2024, however nothing much was heard about the aircraft’s fate since then. The regional airliner was delivered new to Brymon Airways in May 1998 with the latter mentioned carrier being co-founded by ex-F1 driver Chris Amon in 1972. He was involved in F1 racing between 1963 and 1976.

Tropic Ocean Airways has signed a Head of Agreement to induct 20 Polaris Amphibian electric aircraft on routes in Florida, the Bahamas and beyond once the aircraft is certified. Tidal Flight has also revealed that it has secured 8 Letters of Intent (LOI) for the purchase of amphibian aircraft from seaplane and commuter airlines worldwide.

The 'Space Jet' flight test aircraft will be displayed at the Aichi Museum of Flight in 2026. The 10th and final testbed (JA26MJ) flew 48 hours before its cancellation in March 2023. The ANA-colored JA25MJ was dismantled in Moses Lake, USA.

11/02/25: Despite the sanctions, Iran has resorted to a number of extraordinary measures to keep its civil aircraft fleet flying. Earlier in the day MAviO News got up close and personal with this ex-Virgin Atlantic Airbus A340-642, now flying for Mahan Air as EP-MMR. The airline has increasingly come under scrutiny and during the first weeks of 2025, it was alleged that funds for Hezbollah were being channelled to the South Lebanon-based group via Mahan Air flights. The quadjet was previously registered G-VSSH and named “Sweet Dreamer”. It was inducted into the fleet of Mahan Air in August 2015.

10/02/25: This Lufthansa Airbus A340-600 registered D-AIHW is seen landing on runway 13 at Luqa earlier in the day in some challenging x-wind conditions. The wind at the time was reported to be 060/19 with gusts up to 26kt.

09/02/25: This Boeing 777-21H(LR) of Emirates is seen coming in to land on runway 13 at LMML. The widebody twinjet is just over 16 years old having beein delivered to the Dubai-based carrier in 2009. With Qatar Airways returning to the Maltese market from 2nd July 2025, competition for Emirates is likely to increase with Turkish Airlines also vying for the same “hub and spoke” market.
