Brothers of Another Color

Film and TV journalist Bruce Fretts and comedian David Rey Martinez met at their mutual friend Cristina Cote’s all-female comedy show “Hersterical” at Caroline’s in NYC in 2013. Bruce was in the audience, and David was in drag, crashing the stage as his female alter ego, “Anita Man.” It was platonic love at first sight. Soon, Bruce and David Rey started hanging out and discovered they were “Brothers of Another Color”: Both are single dads looking for love in all the wrong places (i.e., NYC and NJ) and trying to earn a living as creative individuals. The idea to turn their positive, humorous cross-racial rapport into a podcast happened when they went to see Dave Chappelle’s birthday show at Radio City Music Hall in 2017. (Thanks for the inspo, Dave.) The first BOAC podcast, “Black Panther vs. Red Sparrow: Which Colorful Animal Titled Movie is Better?” launched in 2018. Future episodes will cover other topics in pop culture, parenting and dating. Thanks for listening (and reading this!).
