“I always enjoy reuniting with WUTK 90.3 The Rock Volunteer Radio alums on Vol football Saturdays, tailgating across from Neyland Stadium. Reconnecting with alumni and introducing them to current students is always a blast, and what better way than to do it together cheering on the Vols! The English Department offered the first journalism classes at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, in 1923. A century later, we are still instructing our students on the Knoxville campus to be future leaders in journalism and media.

Black Metal explorers Liturgy have a highly anticipated new album 93696, set to be released on Thrill Jockey Records during the Big Ears weekend and we’re excited to announce that they will join us in performance on Thursday evening, March 30, the opening night of the festival.

As Consequence writes, “Avant black metallers Liturgy continue to befuddle and hypnotize listeners with their lofty theoretical concepts and mind-bending musical ventures into prog, math rock, and contemporary classical. Sonic and philosophical exploration has been at the heart of the project since band mastermind Ravenna Hunt-Hendrix’s infamous “Transcendental Black Metal” manifesto ruffled the feathers of black metal gatekeepers way back when. From what we’ve heard of the — such as the 15-minute title track — Hunt-Hendrix and company have only grown more adventurous with their art as of late, reaching beyond the utilitarianism of genre and into uncharted territory.”
