Meet Sophie Joans, our 6th speaker and long time supporter of Southern Rights & Wrongs.

is an internationally award-winning playwright, actor and comedian from Cape Town. Her début play, ÎLE travelled to the EdFringe in 2023, where it won awards and nominations. As a comedian, she’s performs both improv comedy and has a certificate in clowning. She started Stand Up comedy at 19, with a ukulele comedy song act.

She’s a big fan of storytelling spaces like The Moth, and Southern Rights & Wrongs. She’s a co-founder of Raunchy Renditions, a similar storytelling evening that focuses on true stories of a raunchy nature.

Returning to tell her 2nd story at Southern Rights & Wrongs is Carly Abramovitz.

is a clinical psychologist and mom of two. Carly run’s her private practice called Carly’s Couch in Constantia and online. When Carly is not holding big feelings (her children’s and clients) she can be found at a kickboxing or hot yoga class. Other hobbies include raucous laughter with friends and scrolling mindlessly through instagram.
