The Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) National Assembly met today to discuss the resignation of Nelson Chamisa. The Assembly also rejected suggestions to have Jameson Timba as the acting President but, however, formed a committee chaired by Timba to engage Chamisa. The assembly also dismissed Promise Mkwananzi's claim to the acting presidency.

Accepting Chamisa's resignation in a statement, the CCC Citizens National Assembly argued that Chamisa only tendered his resignation on Twitter, not the party.

The Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission (ZACC) is said to be targeting the former leader of the "hijacked CCC party" Nelson Chamisa after he abruptly quit the party recently.

Speaking on his X handle a pro-Mugabe supporter Jim Kunaka said that ZACC will be hunting Chamisa for stealing and misappropriating CCC funds during his tenure as the President of that party. He didn't give further details on the raid on Chamisa.

The Confederation of Zimbabwe Industries (CZI) is obligated to pay its former employee, Rita Mbatha, a total of US$47,850, including interest, following a successful application for the registration of a Supreme Court order under SC 119/19. The High Court ruled that Mbatha was unfairly dismissed after reporting her former boss, Farai Zizhou, for sexual harassment. In 2021, the High Court awarded Mbatha US$180,000 for the sexual harassment incidents that occurred between 2002 and 2003.

Zimbabwean President Emmerson Mnangagwa has re-appointed Justice Priscilla Chigumba as the Chairperson of the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) for another six-year term in terms of Section 238 (5) of the Constitution. The reappointment is with effect from February 1.

Chief Secretary to the President and Cabinet Dr. Martin Rushwaya relayed the reappointment to Justice Chigumba in a letter yesterday.

Rescue efforts continue to pull out 7 workers trapped in mine in Zambia

Rescue teams in Zambia continued to pump water and mud from a copper mine where 7 miners were trapped on Monday.
Five Zambian employees and two Chinese were working at the Macrolink mine in Ndola, north of Lusaka. Copperbelt Province Secretary for Zambia Augustine Kasongo said equipment had been provided, which while not "big enough to do the task," would help rescue efforts.

A 21-year-old woman who conspired with her two male friends to kill her family members when she was 15 has been convicted.

Onthantile Sebati, 21, Tumelo Mokone, 24, and Kagiso Mokone, 24, were found guilty of four counts of murder, theft, robbery with aggravating circumstances, possession of a firearm, and possession of ammunition by the Pretoria High Court recently.

The Johannesburg firestarter Sthembiso Lawrence Mdlalose (31) appeared at the Johannesburg Magistrates’ Court on Thursday facing multiple counts ranging from 1 count of arson, 76 counts of murder and 86 counts of attempted murder.

Mdlalose confessed before the Commission of Inquiry into the cause of the fire at the Usindiso building, led by Justice Sisi Khampepe to starting the fire last year in August. The fire claimed 76 lives and left many others injured and homeless.

Cuban Vice President Salvador Valdes Mesa is expected to arrive in Zimbabwe for a three-day official visit during which he is expected to meet with President Mnangagwa.

He is coming in place of President Miguel Diaz-Canel Bermudez, who had been scheduled to visit after attending the G77+ China Summit in Kampala, Uganda.

CCC deputy national chairperson Job Sikhala and Chitungwiza Member of Parliament Godfrey Sithole have been convicted of inciting the public violence that broke out in Nyatsime, Chitungwiza in 2022 after the killing of Ms Moreblessing Ali by a former boyfriend.

The two were convicted after a full trial by Harare magistrate Mrs Tafadzwa Miti who found that Sikhala posted a video encouraging CCC supporters to avenge Ms Ali’s death.

Police in South Africa have arrested a man who claimed responsibility for starting a fire that killed 76 people last year after he said he ignited the blaze while trying to dispose of the body of a man he had strangled.

The shocking and unexpected confession came when the man was testifying at an inquiry into the causes of the fire in August at an apartment building in downtown Johannesburg, which was one of South Africa’s worst disasters.
