Chicken Droppings

Chicken droppings are one of the most important things to check every time because you get to know whether your birds are healthy, or attacked by a disease. When you understand the type of droppings the chickens give out, you will be able to act imediately and prevent loses; a stitch in time saves nine. You need to maintain a close eye on your birds.

Types of Droppings and what they could mean.

√. Firm greyish with a chalky white top.
This is a normal poo. It can be greyish, brownish, green or black, depending on what the chicken eats. If it's in solid state with the white solid part, the poo is very normal.

√. Wattery diarrhoea
Could indicate high protein diets or kidney damage.

√. Clear or watery running droppings
Might be due to heat stress or, an infection with Infectious bronchitis .

√. Blood and mucous in stool
Coccidiosis

√. Yellow or green droppings with pasting of vent feathers
Likely caused by Fowl typhoid.

√. Greenish diarrhoea
Could be Newcastle disease.

√. Whitish pasty diarrhea
Infection with Infectious Bursal Disease (Gumboro disease).

√. White milky running stool
Infectious Bursal Disease

√. Yellow and foaming droppings
Worms or early signs of coccidiosis.

√. Brown diarrhea
Could be E. coli or Infectious bronchitis.

√. Worms in stool
Presence of internal parasites (worms).

10 Summary of the Hyla rabbit breed

11 Conclusion on the Hyla rabbit breeds.

Hyla rabbits are broiler rabbits that were developed by Eurolap company through series of genetic selection, modification and crossing of the California white, New Zealand White and some other meat rabbits.

They are known for their fast growth rate, speedy muscular development, large litters and resistance to diseases.

Due to their rapid maturation, they reach table size (2kg) at 3 months of age.

History of Hyla rabbits

In a bid to produce rabbits that are fast-growing, have speedy muscular development.

Higher meat to bone ratio, big feed conversion ratio, large litters and high resistance to diseases.

A France company called France-Eurolap cross-bred New Zealand white, Californian and other meat-rabbits.

This cross-breeding gave birth to the Grand Parent Stock of the Hyla rabbits. This was the first stage of genetic modification.

The male line of the Grand Parent Stock had observable characters that resembles the Californian Rabbit.

They were ruby-eyed whites with black extremities.

The Female line of the Grand Parent Stock on the other hand had characteristics resembling the New Zealand White rabbit.

They were all white with ruby eyes.

Did you know that clinical coccidiosis in goats is a serious condition requiring immediate treatment? Coccidiosis is caused by microscopic protozoan parasites and its symptoms include rough coats, dirty tails from diarrhoea, reduced feed intake, weakness, and anaemia. Kids will strain while passing faeces, and diarrhoea can be watery or contain mucous and blackish-coloured blood.

Coccidiosis is the most common cause of diarrhoea in goats between 3 weeks and 5 months of age. This is especially true when goats are housed in confinement. Coccidiosis commonly strikes young goats shortly after weaning because of the stress of being suddenly separated from their dam. Kids can be lost due to coccidiosis resulting in financial losses for organisations. For coccidiosis treatment use sulfa based drugs such as intertrim and amprocox. Also, the use of electrolytes is advised especially during diarrhoea to replenish lost water in the animal’s body.

Visit any Fivet branch nearest to you for more information on treatment of coccidiosis.

Coenurosis is a disease of the brain and spinal cord caused by the intermediate stage of Taenia multiceps which inhabits the intestine of dogs, cats and wild carnivores. The clinical disease occurs in sheep and rarely in cattle.
Diseases caused by 𝗛𝗲𝗹𝗺𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗵𝘀

𝗟𝗶𝗳𝗲 𝗰𝘆𝗰𝗹𝗲: Eggs expelled with dog faeces are ingested by the intermediate host (sheep). The larvae hatch in the intestine and pass with the blood stream towards different organs. The larvae which reach the brain and spinal cord grow to the coenurid stage. Coenurus cerebralis will further mature in the brain and spinal cord.

𝗔𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗺𝗼𝗿𝘁𝗲𝗺 𝗳𝗶𝗻𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴𝘀

During migration of larval stage
✓Blindness
✓Muscular tremor and incoordination
✓Excitability and collapse
Infection with the fully developed larval stage

✓Salivation
✓Wild expressions
✓Frenzied running and convulsion
✓Deviation of eye and head
✓Loss of function
✓Dullness
✓Incomplete mastication
✓Head pressing
✓Incomplete paralysis and, in spinal cord involvement, inability to rise

𝗣𝗼𝘀𝘁𝗺𝗼𝗿𝘁𝗲𝗺 𝗳𝗶𝗻𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴𝘀:
Thin walled cyst in the brain
Lesion in the lumbar region and rarely, in the cervical area of the spine

𝗗𝗶𝗳𝗳𝗲𝗿𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗮𝗹 𝗱𝗶𝗮𝗴𝗻𝗼𝘀𝗶𝘀 : Abscess, haemorrhage, brain tumours and in early stages, inflammation of the brain and rabies
