With daytime temperatures approaching 100 degrees over the next few days, the following locations will serve as cooling centers today, Monday, July 15 through Wednesday, July 17. Cold water will be available at these locations as well:

Lynchburg Public Libraries -
Main Branch, 2315 Memorial Avenue: Monday and Wednesday, 9:30 a.m. – 6:00 p.m. and Tuesday, 9:30 a.m. – 8:00 p.m.;
Downtown Branch, 216 12th Street: Monday and Wednesday, 10:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m. and Tuesday, 12:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m.

Miller Center – 301 Grove Street, Monday – Wednesday, 8:30 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.

Dept. of Human Services Lobby – 99 Ninth Street, Monday – Wednesday, 8:30 a.m.- 5:00 p.m.

Lynchburg Community Market – 1219 Main Street, Tuesday and Wednesday, 7:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.

Salvation Army Dining Room – 2215 Park Avenue, Monday – Wednesday, 12:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m.

A few reminders to stay safe in extreme heat include drinking water, keeping cool indoors, limiting physical activities, and wearing lightweight clothing. Check on your neighbors, and make sure your pets are protected from the heat and sun and have plenty of fresh, cold water. Hey - would y’all do me a favor today? We have a sweet little boy here in Lynchburg who is fighting cancer, his name is Kyrie, and he is having a rough time with his treatments right now. For those of you who believe in the power of prayer, would you please lift him up today? I know and love his family and I know they would so appreciate any extra prayers anyone would send. The whole family could use your prayers and support as well. As you can imagine, this is a nightmare for any parent. We believe Kyrie will be healed though!! He just needs to get through these yucky treatments. Thanks so much everyone, pray for him like you would want someone praying if it was your sick child. He’s one of ours Lynchburg.❤️

P O W E R F U L! Jordan Chiles was ready to quit gymnastics. She had been passed over for big assignments year after year due to lack of consistency. The environment was toxic, and many in the gymnastics community had written her off. But Simone said, I see you Queen. In 2019, Simone invited Jordan to relocate from Washington to Texas to join the gym that she OWNS- a safe space with a positive environment. When Jordan arrived, the first thing they worked on was not building her skills but instead building her confidence. Two years later, Simone and Jordan are headed to the Olympics together. This is what we mean by lift as you climb. Trophies are nice but the biggest flex is winning together and creating an environment where others thrive too.
