Writing’s 10th anniversary, Savory Words Publishing was established, focused on Deaf authors. Only a select few books (both print and digital) are accepted each year. This term was coined by poet Andrew Marvell in 1649. It is likely he took this name from an actual species of scorpion known to feast on bugs found within books or scrolls.

This is one of the Deaf community's most shameful secrets: students at the California School for the Deaf in Berkeley were expelled from the school in the months after the December 7, 1941 bombing of Pearl Harbor. In the tumultuous years of World War II, amidst the chaos and injustice inflicted upon Japanese Americans was a long-overlooked group facing insurmountable challenges: Deaf Nikkei.
