The world’s oldest known library is the Library of Ashurbanipal, located in the ancient city of Nineveh (modern-day Iraq) from nearly 3,000 years ago. This library had over 30,000 clay tablets and documents containing cuneiform, along with literature (such as “Epic of Gilgamesh”), government records, medical texts, religious writings, and scientific observations. This library shows that humans have preserved stories, knowledge, and history for thousands of years.

The earliest known evidence of storytelling, in the form of figurative cave paintings, dates back at least 51,200 years, which means that humans were expressing stories well before written language existed.

This shows that storytelling is deeply rooted in human history and has always been central to how we connect and communicate.
