Way back when, I used to start my Cephas Hour show with a clip from Monty Python, namely John Cleese saying, "And now for something completely different." Lately I've used my own dulcet tones.

That said, there is something different about Cephas Hour. Namely, it's free. For you. I buy the music I play, and I pay for the website. No Kickstarter or GoFundMe. No Patreon. No subscription services or fees. Why?

Because I believe in the music, and I believe in the artists.

I support artists who use Kickstarter and GoFundMe. It's expensive to make new, or re-release old, music. They deserve to make a living from their gift. That's why I link to their websites. That's why I urge you to buy downloads or CDs or vinyl (where available) from the artists you hear on Cephas Hour.

Said all that to say there's a new episode, focused on the music. It's a mix of classic alternative, new alternative, and mainstream music from then and now. Artists are:

• Bob Bennett (https://bobbennett.com/)
• Crystoria (https://crystoria.godaddysites.com/)
• Daniel Amos (http://www.danielamos.com/)
• Keith Green (https://www.lastdaysministries.com/)
• Richie Furay (https://www.richiefuray.com/)
• The Choir (https://thechoir.net/)
• The Throes (https://thethroes.bandcamp.com/)
• VEIL OF ASHES (https://veilofashes.bandcamp.com/)

You can hear the show on demand at https://cephashour.com/2024/08/05/cephas-hour-episode-128-release-date-august-5-2024/ or wherever you subscribe to podcasts (except Spotify, because they just don't get it).

Recently there's been a bit of a kerfuffle, or ruckus raised by me if you prefer, over the "Us Kids" documentary currently in production. Said documentary is looking at the Christian alternative rock scene from its beginnings in the 1980s through the 1990s.

While I'm all for maximum exposure of the genre and its artists, as evidenced by my Cephas Hour podcast, I am rather nonplussed at not having been asked to be in, or part of, the documentary. Granted, I'm not as omnipresent in self-promotion as others are or were. But I was there, and I had a not inconsiderable role on the journalism side for several years.

With this in mind, and hopefully speaking from an accurate historical perspective rather than bellowing wounded ego at being ignored, I've put together a brief outline of those days gone by. https://cephashour.com/2024/07/11/and-now-after-126-episodes-i-finally-introduce-myself/

I also still do, and intend to continue doing, the Cephas Hour podcast featuring the best of Christian rock and pop from then and now. Because the music, and the artists, deserve to be heard.

Back in the day—1987, to be precise—I became the first and only music journalist covering Christian rock for a “secular” publication. The magazine in question was called PULSE! and its publisher wa…

Over the past several months, I’ve started posting the text from Cephas Hour shows at RedState. It’s not that the shows are political in nature, but it is an opportunity to grow the show’s audience.

While I apologize for neither my faith nor my political views, I also seek to not bash anyone over the head with either. There is already far more than enough divisiveness in the world. Agree with me, great. Disagree with me on some point, that’s okay. I am confident we will always find areas of mutual interest.

The latest episode of Cephas Hour is up, with terrific music by The Call, Crystoria, The Choir, Kemper Crabb, and Oden Fong. You can listen to the show on-demand at https://cephashour.com/2024/06/12/cephas-hour-episode-125-release-date-june-12-2024/, and if you want to read my musings from the show they are available at https://redstate.com/jerrywilson/2024/06/13/the-problem-of-pain-n2175411. Hope you enjoy it, and thanks.
